  • gilmore gas was once the largest distributor of gasoline in the western united states, now part of a larger oil company…it started at the corner of fairfax and third in los angeles, just a few blocks off route 66…and when I say started, they were actually drilling for oil at that location…today the location houses the bustling and famous farmers market, a great place to eat and watch the world go by…be sure to check out a very cool restored gilmore gas station…

  • route 66 defines america’s love of the automobile…along its 2448 miles many innovations serving the driving public sprang up to entice people off the road to spend a little of their travelin’ cash…the drive-in movie theater typifies this golden age of all things “car”...today a relatively small number of drive-ins continue to thrive…

  • Castle Staufen, located on a rise above the town of the same name, was constructed during the early 12th century. The first (still existing) written mention of the castle can be dated in the year 1248. During the course of several feuds with the nearby city of Freiburg did the Lords of Staufen fall on hard times and finally came under the control of Freiburg, being required not to act against Freiburg’s interests as well as aid that city and always provide shelter for their troops. During the 30-Year-War the castle was razed by Swedish troops, only the outer walls survived the fires. The castle hill now serves as a vineyard for several vintners based in Staufen and some outlying farmsteads. ++ Location: Staufen im Breisgau (Germany)

  • Seen whilst driving on Kangaroo Island, this abandoned homestead proved to be a fantastic location for hundreds of photographs! These homes were built at a time in Australian-history when corrugated-iron was cheap and easily-manufactured. The internal walls are solid lime-stone, there is a fire-place in every room (and built to last the test of time), and very high ceilings. What’s most amazing is that the toilet (as seen on right) has a great view of the farm over the front-yard. • While on a tour of a local Hydro Dam at Stave Lake, BC. we saw a number of antique electric household appliances, including irons, stoves, wringer washers, etc. on display in the museum. I am often fascinated with the old labels, worn out and well used equipment of days gone by, and when I came upon this antique No. 1 Kodak Jr. camera in one of the display boxes I couldn’t help by take a shot of it. This model nearly a century old.

The Popeye boat and paddle-boats are launched off the banks of the River Torrens. • Copyright © Colleen G. Drew From Heritage Village, Dallas, Texas Built only a few blocks from Dallas Heritage Village, at the corner of Akard and Beaumont in the fashionable Cedars neighborhood, this house was occupied for 100 years by the Daniel F. and Mary Sullivan family. Typical of late 19th century neoclassical revival architecture, the house boasts fluted columns on the porch and a more symmetrical floor plan than the nearby Queen Anne-style George House. Because Mr. Sullivan was a plumbing and gas fitting contractor, this house also boasts an indoor bathroom and early gas lighting.

  • My 12 year old Nephew at Upper Canada Village, Ontario. Upper Canada Village is an amazing place – a fully working model of life in Ontario in the 1800’s. Restored or accurate reproduction buildings, working farms, livestock, mills, cloth production, backsmiths, flour mills, cheese factory, you name it. The staff are dressed in period costume and are extremely knowledgeable about their specific areas of expertise. Not only is visiting a trip back in time, it’s also a very educational experience. Three of us visited that day – me, Colin and his friend Evan – and between us we took over 400 shots in the space of three and a half hours. Colin also took the shot that I’m using for an avatar.

  • Rock formations on the beach at Eype, Dorset

  • Found this in an old warehouse on Kangaroo Island at Kingscote. Took a lot of great shots, but this one amazed me.
