I enjoy photographing the foggy autumn mornings. I also dabble some with my family’s genealogy. I find it interesting to see how my forefathers lived. This Photo is a combination of the two interests. I think the times past is important and should be preserved. / This is Mingus Mill located on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.It is one of the many historic structures preserved by the Park Services. It was built in 1886.It is one of two operating grist mills in the GSMNP.These mills were a vital part of the communities of that era.The people of that era could grow there grain but still needed to have it ground so they could have there day to day bread. / I feel it’s important to call peoples attention to structures like this. They may then have a better understanding of those wishing support to help preserve them.So our grandchildren can see the struggles of how we became a nation
Tucked away in the shadows of the Smoky Mountains, is Noah Ogle’s Place. Built abound 1880 by Noah an Cindy Ogle the closed section was built 1st.The far end section was built after having kids. turning it from a single pen to a saddlebag design. Through the efforts of the National Park Service, this historic Appalachian cabin has been preserved. This is located on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, outside of Gatlinburg,Tennessee,USA

Col. Hamp Tipton had this house built after the Civil War. He lived across the mountain but 2 of his daughters lived here for a time. They taught school there in the cove. Later a blacksmith James McCaulley rented it till he could get his own place. It is located on the Cades Cove Loop Rd.,in the Great Smoky Mountains NP.It is an example of the late 1800’s Appalachian home place. The covering seen behind the house on the right side was where the bee hives were kept. Honey was a valuable trade item.
A prominant dot on the landscape around Gleno, Co.Antrim … this old building ooses stone appeal … I love it … I would love to live here (convert to livable accomodation beforehand of course).
The mountain folk let there livestock run free to feed on what nature provided. Any fencing used was to keep them out of the garden or a particular area. The pig pen was used about the first frost. A pig was put into a pen like this to fatten. They would fatten them to the point the roof would have to be removed to get the pig out…..The pen also provided protection from bears and other predators….Every part of the pig was used as meat, lard, or its hide….This pig pen is located on the Ephraim Bales place along The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail,GSMNP

Scenes like this abound along the back roads of West Virginia. All it takes to find them is patience, gasoline, and the willingness to get up at the crack of dawn when the light is best.

Matted print without frame shown on the right – it is a modern sleek look without the added cost of custom framing and it looks great on any office or home wall. Also consider a loose glossy canvas as option to flat frame as you would with normal paper prints; the texture on a cotton canvas plus the fact that the larger the print (I have personally printed at sizes of up to 1.5 meter on satin semi gloss and glossy canvas) the more spectacular it looks and the texture compliments my art and the ethereal color tone extremely well, it also blends iso200 & iso400 noise so well that it has become a preference in some photos even if I could have used a much lower iso100 speed just for the added painterly effect the grain produces and ‘life’ of the fiber texture it gives prints printed this way – definitely an option I would recommend before considering any other cotton rag matte paper when a bigger size is preferred. Unfortunately the swivel head on my tripod snapped right off so I had to shoot the remaining pictures handheld!
