I have deliberately edited this photo very dark. It was s/w original . the right father is my father in the picture and my brother lies in the baby carriage.
gilmore gas was once the largest distributor of gasoline in the western united states, now part of a larger oil company…it started at the corner of fairfax and third in los angeles, just a few blocks off route 66…and when I say started, they were actually drilling for oil at that location…today the location houses the bustling and famous farmers market, a great place to eat and watch the world go by…be sure to check out a very cool restored gilmore gas station…
route 66 defines america’s love of the automobile…along its 2448 miles many innovations serving the driving public sprang up to entice people off the road to spend a little of their travelin’ cash…the drive-in movie theater typifies this golden age of all things “car”...today a relatively small number of drive-ins continue to thrive…
driving through afton, oklahoma you will spot this friendly sign assuring you that you and your beloved packard will get top notch service by an approved provider…probably not a big draw as the packard has very little presence on today’s highways…however, a closer look will reveal a packard lovers dream, a museum devoted to all things packard…beautifully restored cars fill the old showroom along with other items of historical interest…in a nearby yard sit several rusty hulks waiting their turn at salvation at the hands of a skilled mechanic…

Lindisfarne Castle Lindisfarne Castle is a 16th-century castle located on Holy Island, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England, The castle is located in what was once the very volatile border area between England and Scotland. Not only did the English and Scots fight, but the area was frequently attacked by Vikings. The castle was built in 1550, around the time that Lindisfarne Priory went out of use, and stones from the priory were used as building material. It is very small by the usual standards, and was more of a fort. The castle sits on the highest point of the island, a whin stone hill called Beblowe.
In the eighteenth century the castle was occupied briefly by Jacobite rebels, but was quickly recaptured by soldiers from Berwick who imprisoned the rebels; they dug their way out and hid for nine days close to nearby Bamburgh Castle before making good their escape. In 1901, it became the property of Edward Hudson, a publishing magnate and the owner of Country Life magazine.
Part of the documentary series of photos of the historic snowfall of December 11, 2008 in the greater New Orleans area; this photograph is of a local landmark, the charming little house with a picket fence on Highway 25 in Covington, Louisiana, also known as the New Orleans northshore.
Hagia Sophia
Yves de Vescy, Baron of Alnwick, erected the first parts of the castle in 1096. It was built to defend England’s northern border against the Scottish invasions and border reivers. It was besieged in 1172 and again in 1174 by William the Lion, King of Scotland and William was captured outside the walls during the Battle of Alnwick. / It has been at the centre of the country’s famous historical events – from the bloodthirsty battles between the English and the Scots to the dramatic intrigues of the Guy Fawkes plot. The Castle can be found in the district of Alnwick, Northumberland. If ever your in the region its well worth a visit.

I took several shots of downtown St Elmo, Colorado – it was a ghost town, converted to an actual town by a doctor who didn’t want to see it disappear. He and the new town folks restored the original ghost town buildings to working homes and buildings. It’s a nice trip with gorgeous views and the brightest blue sky! ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITES! FEELS LIKE THE OLD WEST! The sky really is that blue – it’s up over 12,000 feet elevation – No enhancements at all – just what you see is what you get! This is part of the converted buildings – some are also homes.
