Old Point Loma Light House by RD Randy Riccoboni. / More about this artist The brilliant white washed building gleams in the hot California sun while the shaded earth remains cool in between the fog bank rolls in and out in blue wind swept hues. The historic lighthouse was built in 1855 and today the Old Point Loma Light House still stands watch over San Diego, sentinel to a vanished past. The National Park Service has refurbished the interior to its historic 1880’s appearance. Old Point Loma Light sits high on a penninsula that reaches out to the sea and high above the city below and across the bay. On clear days one can see hundreds of miles from the San Berardino Mountains behind Los Angeles to the north, through the entire county of San Diego, and southward to Mexico and out to see where the Coronado Isalnd glisten in the distance. On a rare day one can see San Clemente Island to the west out in the Pacific Ocean. Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities – always see them, for they’re always there – Dr.Norman Vincent Peale Riccoboni’s paintings on canvas and paper depict his travels and local interest. Subjects include California landscape, cityscape, portraiture, street-scenes, public events, and everyday happenings and friends. His palette is derived from the bold colors of the original rainbow flag. Colors that represent, sexuality, healing, sunshine, nature, art, harmony, and spirit. Riccoboni’s internationally recognized work represents community, a sense of place in a positive and life affirming manner. / See more of the artist’s San Diego work like this

A Skaw Karen man in the mountains of Mae Hong Son province Thailand strikes a piece of iron against a quartz rock to create sparks that will ignite the raw-cotton threads he is holding. It takes only a couple of strikes before he can gently blow and coax a glow . He then places the smouldering cotton onto the tobacco in his pipe. This man carried his traditional lighter in his hand woven shoulder bag, and used no other means to light fires. This effective method has been widely used since the first introduction of iron into the mountains, around 2,500 years ago, but scenes like this can no longer be seen in northern Thailand. Karen have lived in eastern Burma for possibly thousands of years and are the longest established and most populous hilltribe group in Thailand. Taken in the early 1980s in a remote area, days walk from a road, with Nikon FM2, Nikkor 50mm, 1.4, lense, kodachrome slide film.
