On December 13, 1577, Drake, commanding the Golden Hind, left Plymouth with four other vessels with the story that they were sailing to Alexandria, Egypt. Almost three years later, Drake returned without his escorts on September 26, 1580, after circumnavigating the globe. There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory. / Words by Francis Drake Acrylics, pigment, inks and gold foil / 100×42cm on paper / Music

Graphite drawing. / I have learned that one can’t run from their deamons. And if when one dares to glance back to see if they are catching up, usually they are upon you. If one doesn’t face them they loom in the back of the mind anyway – sometimes growing larger. Furthermore, while fleeing one tends to burn bridges. Opportunities to deal with them on a smaller scale have flown out the window. Hind sight is quite useless then.

The Golden Hind (a.k.a. Golden Hinde – hind meaning doe), was originally the Pelican. She was an English galleon and was captained by Sir Francis Drake. THis is the vessel he used to circumnavigate the world. This is a panoramic view that art shows the ship in the distance, with the moon behind it peeking through the clouds. It’s a complete digital creation. A fine art giclée is available at My Gallery Art by Kinnally™
