This is the first in a series I foresee doing, to increase awareness to the plight of endangered and threatened animals from around the globe. This First Edition focuses on three of the largest and most endangered carnivores today, the Sumatran tiger, the Amur leopard, and the Snow leopard. These are by no means the only imperiled wild cats, as the majority of wild cat species smaller in average body size than 30 kg are at a critical stage. / / / Because without these animals I would never be able to bring their beauty to you, I am going to pledge to donate 100% of all of my sales proceeds from cards and prints of the imagery in this series here on Redbubble to Wildlife Conservation Society Thank you for your support in the race to stave off the extinction of these magnificent creatures.
Young Tibetan Buddhist monks are captivated by a scene during the annual festival at Lamayuru Monastery, Ladakh, North India.
This image is taken from a collection of work titled ‘Journey into the Pure Lands’. These images were taken in the winter of 2003 during a four week trek through the Nepal Himalayas Everest region. We climbed as far as Gokyo, reaching 5500m above sea level. I undertook this journey for a number of reasons. That year had been difficult and had involved loss, at this point in my life I felt that I had nothing to lose but to take up the challenge of trekking a mountain in Nepal. I had always dreamed of doing this, not only for the landscape, but also so I could draw near to the heart of Tibetan Buddhism, something that has influenced my life for a long time. I was not sure what I wanted to find, maybe a challenge to revitalize my life, or to give myself time and space to find some clarity. What I did find was one hell of a challenge! The struggles caused by temperatures dropping as low as -15 and the impact of high altitude really helped me put into perspective some of the emotional adversity I had experienced. The richness and mysticism was a photographers dream, but most of all I was inspired by the peace, humour and great strength I found amongst the Tibetan and Nepalese people despite the adversity they had faced. There was a sense of space and clarity, not just in the landscape, but also amongst many of whom we met. At the end of a hard days trekking the clouds would gather beneath us forming a white blanket almost real enough to walk on. I could describe it as nothing less than the pure lands depicted within Buddhist imagery.

Prayer flags and tombstones of Thokla Pass 4830m with Himalayan mountain scenery in the Sagarmatha National Park, Nepal. Ama Dablam 6856m dominates the skyline in the centre of the photo with Taboche Peak 6367m to the right and Pokalde 5806m to the left. It was a five hour climb from Dingboche to Thokla pass and the culmination of happiness at reaching so high up amongst the world’s highest peaks was also filled with the emotion of seeing the rock cairn memorials of the climbers who had died in those mountains. Every step of the two hour walk to Lobuche that afternoon was an effort, walking across a rocky moonscape at the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. The prayer flags represent the elements of the five pure lights with blue being sky, white air, red fire, green water and yellow earth. The ancient Buddhist prayers, mantras and powerful symbols displayed on them produce a spiritual vibration that is activated and carried by the wind across the land. The Wind Horse (Lung-ta) carrying the “Wish Fulfilling Jewel of Enlightenment” is the most prevalent symbol used on prayer flags and represents good luck. Featured in Flags in Motion and Himalaya. /
Evening at Dingboche with new moon and fresh snow on Ama Dablam, Nepal. This was such a magical experience. It started snowing late in the afternoon and then cleared just on dusk as the moon came out. Nikon D80, Nikkor AF-DX Fisheye 10.5mm at 10.5mm / F 2.8, 1/8, ISO 1600 Featured in That One Great Shot /
The beautiful views at Dusa above the Lobuche Khola valley in fresh snow, with Ama Dablam 6856m to the left and the jagged peak of Taboche Peak 6367m, right. Sagarmatha National Park, Nepal.
While in Nepal recently, i visited a place called Nagarkot, which is renown for its views of the Himalayas. i got up early for sunrise in hopes of a clear day with panoramic views out to the Himalayas. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and the clouds were in to stay.. However, it let me get this shot of the suns rays shining through the clouds to the hills below. You have to work with what you’ve got, and sometimes, that’s not so bad. Canon 400d + 18-55mm kit lens
Taboche Peak 6367m rises majestically from the floor of the valley of the Lobuche Khola River in the Nepalese Himalayas. To the right is Cholatse with her 6335m peak just in the clouds. At the foot of the valley above the village of Pheriche rises the twin peaks of Kangtega 6685m with Thamserku 6608m to her right. The fresh snow fell deep in the valley the night before. These mountains are some of the world’s most famous and the Sagarmatha National Park is their home.

Two monks walking through the streets of Lhasa at dusk. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet and is the highest capital in the world. Lhasa means “place of the gods” and ancient Tibetan inscriptions demonstrate that the place was called “Rasa” , meaning “goats place” until the early 7th century.

This photo was taken in the Hamlet of Thokarpa, Nepal in 2007. The area is located approximately 6 hours by bus and a 2 hour trek from Kathmandu. It is situated on the side of a mountain range and the people survive on corn, rice and native vegetation. The two girls were my students at the school. This photograph captures the spirit of the Nepalese people, their positive attitude, love for nature and their simple life.

The Sun rises beyond Makalu, Makalu rises beyond snow dunes on Island Peak. Light that has travelled 93 million miles, illuminates the snow, creating these sensual lines and shadows. People dare not tread here.
seeing a few people posting their winter pics, thought I would dig out a couple of faves from the big mountains in Nepal. This one the mighty and beautiful Ama Dablam 6856m. Featured in “Mountains and Mountain Light”.
This was the culmination of my trek in 07. Having succumbed to one of the worst headaches ever on my previous day’s attempt at climbing Kala Pathar, I had the choice of going to base camp or climbing Kala Pathar 5550m. Naturally I chose the highest point and also one of the best views from which to ogle at the beauty of Mt Everest. These are three images merged in Photoshop. From the top of Kalar Pathar, the towering face of Pumo Ri 7165m is the closest peak on the left. Across the valley is Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse and then in all her might and glory, Mt Everest aka Chomolungma 8850m and her sister Nuptse 7861m. (Naturally Nuptse looks taller because she is closer) The Khumbu Glacier falls down the Western Cwm and is joined further down the valley by the Changri Shar and Changri Nup Glaciers on the right of the photo. Everest base camp is just above the point on the black ridge behind the glacial lake.

Ama Dablam (6856m) is one of the most beautiful and distinctive mountains in the Himalaya. It is worshipped by the Sherpa people as a sacred mountain and named after the small container in which travelling Tibetans carry a statue of the Buddha. The mountain is considered to be the repository of the Buddha’s teachings and water flowing from the mountains represents the spread of Buddhism.
