At this particular spot the morning-light show on that July morning a few days ago here in the forests near Hilversum/The Netherlands was at its best, when the sunbeams were chasing the morning ghosts. After which trees were they hiding? – I was ever so lucky to find this place in time, as this show was a fleeting appearance. Proposed for “Pay if forward” (http://www.redbubble.com/groups/pay-it-forward) / by Byron. Near Laage Vuursche, 24th July 2008, 7,15 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 48 mm / F 10, 1/30, ISO 200
Today I ventured again into the blue forest in the early-morning mist, so full of unforseeable dangers and adventures. It proved to be another lucky day – all monsters had taken a day off!, and so I came home with a load of worthwhile pictures, happy that I had managed again to get up and out so early. To say the truth, I had to give myself a good push first, but when I looked out of the window and saw the mist, the blue world outside lured me irresistably to get on my bike again. Near Hilversum, 9th April 2009, 7,35 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 36 mm / F 13, 1/60, ISO 800
Once again the light was winning on this spectacular November morning! Taken halfway between Hilversum and Laage Vuursche in the Netherlands on one of the most beautiful cycling paths in the forests around here! Near HIlversum, 14th November 2007, 9.55 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 112 mm / F 16, 1/60, ISO 400 Featured in “Shots in the Fog”.
It was a grand forest morning yesterday. First the blue light of an early December morning, and then the morning sun kissing the forest awake again. Here she made the last leaves of this old beech-tree light up like candle lights. Near Hilversum, 2nd December 2008, 9.39 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 56 mm / F 18, 1/50, ISO 400
Again a shot from my archive, showing a lightful forest road near Hilversum in December 2007. Only seldom you find these wonderful conditions of haze and sunshine in our forests here coming together in such a conspicuous way. Near Hilversum, 13th December 2007, 9.52 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 40 mm / F 8, 1/80, ISO 200
It was another beautiful summer morning with some haze a few days ago which made me go out on my bike early. I am glad I did push myself up and out.! The forests here near Hilversum are such a good cycling area! Near Laage Vuursche, 24 July 2008, 6.45 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 150 mm / F 8, 1/25, ISO 200 Featured in “Your Magic Place”.
The light on that November day had a special quality to it, due to the wonderful morning haze. This normally is just a little path for cyclists and horseriders here near Hilversum, with nothing special about it. But the veil of light changed it into an enchanted path, full on unknown mysteries. Would there perhaps be some fairy bringing happiness and health? Hilversum, 3rd November 2007, 10.31 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 170 mm / F 14, 1/60, ISO 500
The morning mist has been a great enchanter this week. This time I searched for its marvellous transformations on the Horneboeg Heath here at Hilversum and found this little scene. Actually this is another hit-shot today at deviantArt: nearly 1100 viewers in 17 hours. So you should not miss it either, I think. Near Hilversum, 9th October 2008, 9.02 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 112 mm / F 29, 1/40, ISO 400
On a grey and wet mid-December morning like this one my soul longs for the morning light, shining through the trees as it did here in a beech-tree forest near Hilversum last week. Near Hilversum, 2n December 2008, 9.43 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 90 mm / F 13, 1/50, ISO 400
After your wonderful response to my “Veil of morning light” once again a shot from the hazy morning two days ago. The sunbeams are so strong on this picture that you have to look rather closely to see the winding course of the cycling path. It is the path from Hilversum to the paradisical forests near Laage Vuursche. You still have to cross a railway line and a motorway (yes, we have them too, though you never see them on my shots!), and then you are in foresty dreamland. But this bit of the path is already a lovely start, is it not? Near Hilversum, 7th October 2008, 933 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 34 mm / F 4, 1/25, ISO 400
Digging in my old store I just found a shot which all those of you might like who have become fans of my magic light shots in the forests here around Hilversum. This one was taken in September 2007 and to me is ever so suggestive: a warm dreamlike morning comes back to my mind! / Ah, to think of such mornings … ! And of such light …! Warming your heart and your soul. Not an everyday experience, certainly not, but they shall come again! Near Hilversum, 23rd September 2007, 9,37 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 50 mm / F 11, 1/100, ISO 400
I told you the other day in connection with the beech-tree shot that while the beeches are still comparatively green, other leaves are already in full autumn colour. Here you have a good example of it. The shot is taken on one of our great cycling paths which you can find here in the Gooi. As many of you have praised the beauty of this area, here some more information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gooi Near Hilversum, 10th October 2008, 8.16 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 56 mm / F 5, 1/30, ISO 800
This morning heavy mist enchanted the world here around Hilversum, especially in the forests. This shot was taken on the grounds of the country-house Eindegooi. Near Hilversum, 28th September 2008, 10,35 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 18 mm / F 11, 1/25, ISO 400

You know these trees already from my misty beech-tree shot. On Easter Monday we had snow here. It made me take another look at them. I hope you like this shot too. Taken near Hilversum/The Netherlands, 24th March 2008, 8.42 am / Nikkon D 80, 18-200 mm at 56 mm / F 10, 1/25, ISO 100 And here a shot taken just about one year later: Here the misty shot taken earlier:
Another shot from the old box, as I have taken no new pictures since 19th November. Fortunately there are quite a few shots still worth showing to you in that box. This shot was again taken in the forests near Hilversum in early October when the trees were still green and a lovely haze gave a mysterious touch to the world. Near Hilversum, 7th October 10.08 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 200 mm / F 11, 1/40, ISO 400
Today a miserable drizzle is all we have here! My soul longs for the memory of sunshine! Fortunately I could add to the store quite a lot in the past days. Hilversum, 13th November 2008, 10.34 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 at 120 mm / F 13, 1/125, ISO 400
Where does this riding path lead to? Yes, it leads into the mysteries of the blue forest. Beware! You never know what shall happen there … / Taken this morning in the forests near Hilversum when at last the weather tempted me to go out again early. And what did happen? Well, I shall tell you later … Near Hilversum, 2nd December 2008, 8.44 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 200 mm / F 6.3, 1/20, ISO 200
No, this sort of light in combination with the early haze is special present which you do not get here on each December morning. But when you have it, it is like a sort of photographic heaven. Taken again in the forests near Hilversum. Near Hilversum, 2n December 2008, 9.37 am / Nikon D89, Nikkor 18-.200 mm at 50 mm / F 14, 1/50, ISO 400
Today we had one of the great mornings again when you have both: haze and sunshine. A great opportunity for a lovely February walk and also for another atmospheric shot here in the forests near Hilversum. This was another great spring morning in the hazy forests near Hilversum/The Netherlands. Alas the weather has changed by now, so probably there will be no more misty morning-mystery here this month. Near Hilversum, 24th April 2009, 7.19 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 70 mm / F 5, 1/60, ISO 200
Going on the sunbeam trail and trying to find an enchanted world first of all means being out at just the good moment. It really is a matter of about one hour or so in the early morning. Before it the sun is still too low to spread its beams, and when it has passed the sun has sucked up the morning haze and the world looks normal again. The forest may be very beautiful still in the morning sunshine, but that one special extra element, the lightbeam miracle, will have gone. / This shot was taken on the Horneboeg Heath here at Hilversum at the beginning of my trip yesterday morning, on a small horse riders´ path that is very nice, but normally has nothing special about it. The sun and haze made it look like the entrance into fairytale land, don´t you think so? At least that is my association. / Hilversum, 8th June 2009, 7.01 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 40 mm / F 14, 1/30, ISO 250
The sky above the Horneboeg Heath at Hilversum shortly after sunrise on an October morning in 2007, so full of contrails as you seldom see them even here where the airfield of Amsterdam Schiphol is so near. Hilversum, 5th October 2007, 8.10 am / NIkon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 38 mm / F 27, 1/200, ISO 200
As I promised you here another shot from my sunrise trip to the Southern Heath near Hilversum. Indeed was rewarded more than abundantly for my early rising that morning. The low night temperature, the stillness of the air and the clear sky had caused a good level of low morning morning mist in the open land of the heath (on next morning I was going to discover that it was even mistier in polderland – but please keep patient). / Ah, that morning sun! Filling your soul with its magnificent light! Ever so invigorating to experience it, but also so hard a challenge in June! After all the sun rises here at about 5.15 am at the moment (in autumn, winter, and spring the challenge is a lot easier!). But the reward: an empty heath! Just you and the sun! And the rabbits of course! Though most oft hem had sprinted to their covers! Lucky ones: they can enjoy all the sunrises! May we conclude: Be a rabbit! Rise early! After all did not my mother teach me already: “Early to be, early to rise, makes a man happy, wealthy and wise.“ / Let me add. Not being a rabbit I am so grateful to you all! Without you I would never have discovered these sunrises and developped the new habit of sunrise-chasing, but would just be keeping my head on the pillow or piddling around the house. Whenever I tell some friend that there is nothing like a June sunrise at 5 am, they find me pretty crazy. What do they know? They do not have all my wonderful fans on deviantArt en Redbubble who make me go out so early and who enjoy my pictures afterwards. Well, if I succeed to get some good shots. So here is the challenge! Near Hilversum, 12th June 2009, 5.36 am / Nikkon D80, Nikkor 18-200 at 130 mm / F 16, 1/80, ISO 100
