A morbid history of St. John’s… the hill in the background is known as Gibbets Hil, it is where all the criminals were hung in public executions. The body of water at the base of the hill is where the executioner would throw the bodies when they were dead. The pond is known as “Dead Man’s Pond”. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /

“In the Stillness of Night” Photography and Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A surreal adaptation of a lone tree on a hill overlooking the ocean, looking silently to the full moon for peace and tranquility. “Night, when words fade and things come alive. When the destructive analysis of day is done, and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again. When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree.” / ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry In the Stillness of Night was featured in the: Live, Love, Dream group – June 09

Sun Storm was shot at the same location and on the same shoot as Storm Passing Crescent. The light was sensational. The passing storm had been replaced by bright sunshine as the foreboding clouds hung offshore and contemplated where to dump next. On reflection, I could have gone up to f8 and sped up the shot, and perhaps should have. Lesson learnt by the end of the 6 day shoot. Sunset Swell was shot at Pebbly Beach at Crescent Head as the sun set behind us, spreading its glorious colour across to the east horizon for a few minutes. The waves were really happening, so at the expense of some light rather than ISO I shot this image at 1 second. And another. And another. And another, but this one had the best “show”.
