  • This was taken just as the sun had come up. It had been a wet and stormy night, and I was out trying to photograph lightning but was unsuccessful, so I found a nice spot that I had come across the day before and thought would make a nice spot for a sunrise shoot. When I arrived at the spot, it was still raining and overcast and I was expecting sunrise to be ruined by the cloud cover, but I decided to wait around for a while before heading back to camp. Shortly after sunrise, the clouds started to break up and I saw a gap in the clouds starting to open up, and then I started to see some colour breaking though the clouds, so I got my camera and tripod out the back of the car and set up and waited. Suddenly some sunlight came out from the clouds and the landscape in front of me lit up and became bathed in golden light. You can see some rain coming down in the top right hand corner of the photo behind the mountain range which was another bonus! The light didn’t last very long though, maybe 5-10 mins, then it became overcast again and started to rain again, so I packed up and headed back to camp. It didn’t clear up again till around midday on that day, but it was a spectacular sunrise and one of my favourite photos, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed shooting it. EOS 20D. • As soon as I came across this lone lamb, I was reminded of the old hymn by Ira Sankey, based on Matthew 18:13…. The Ninety and Nine. There were ninety and nine that safely lay / In the shelter of the fold. / But one was out on the hills away, / Far off from the gates of gold. / Away on the mountains wild and bare. / Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. / Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. “Lord, Thou hast here Thy ninety and nine; / Are they not enough for Thee?” / But the Shepherd made answer: “This of Mine / Has wandered away from Me; / And although the road be rough and steep, / I go to the desert to find My sheep, / I go to the desert to find My sheep.” But none of the ransomed ever knew / How deep were the waters crossed; / Nor how dark was the night the Lord passed through / Ere He found His sheep that was lost. / Out in the desert He heard its cry, / Sick and helpless and ready to die; / Sick and helpless and ready to die. “Lord, whence are those blood drops all the way / That mark out the mountain’s track?” / “They were shed for one who had gone astray / Ere the Shepherd could bring him back.” / “Lord, whence are Thy hands so rent and torn?” / “They are pierced tonight by many a thorn; / They are pierced tonight by many a thorn.” And all through the mountains, thunder riven / And up from the rocky steep, / There arose a glad cry to the gate of Heaven, / “Rejoice! I have found My sheep!” / And the angels echoed around the throne, / “Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own! / Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own!”
