Fall foliage around the Cades Cove campground Great Smoky Mountain NP
focal length: 28mm / aperture: 20 / shutter: 8 sec. / time taken: 11:08am / date taken: 5/18/2007 / used a tripod even though the sun was high in the sky this place produced lots of shade. I was able to get my tripod very close to the pool and get a low profile shot. I actually took two different compositions to see which one I and others like. I used selective color and curves. I only lightened the dark areas slightly to create more contrast with the lighter areas. I like having the water glow so I lighten the colors in the white setting of selective color.
Hiking track on Madeira Island. / (Who remembers that Led Zeppelin tune ;-)
Bridal Veil Falls is a magnificent waterfall whose splendor is challenging to capture in a mere photograph….The trail is fairly easy until you get to the last segment, which is a bit steep & rocky….but it is well worth the hike…..nature gifts to you a most amazing reward, and you forget about everything except the wonder of her beauty… Bridal Veil Falls is in a sometimes overlooked corner of Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado.
This was taken in Moab, one of many hikes on Arches National Park & it really caught my attention. First off being from Canada, I had never seen a high desert area such as this and was amazed to see how well nature had adapted to it`s conditions. Everything had a purpose and it was truly impressive to see Mother Nature is one of it`s great forms. / Anyhow, the tree truly caught my attention, by it shapes, the location and simply for being as big as he was compared to all the others. / Cheers
Winding one lane road along Middle Prong Little River in the Tremont area of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This was originally a railroad bed for the Little River Lumber Co. About 2/3 of the park was purchased from lumber companies. Little River Lumber created a logging town here at Tremont as well as Elkmont and Townsend. They logged in this area for about 3 decades. The last lumber was removed from here in about 1938. There is a Auto Tour Guide for this area that will explain much of the logging operation if you ever visit. Before becoming the park about a billion broad feet of lumber was removed from the Smokies.
Flame Azalea, (rhododendron calendulaceum) is one of the nine rhododendron genus shrubs growing in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is often confused with the Cumberland Azalea which is on the red side of orange, while the flame azalea is on the yellow side. These shrubs may start blooming in the lower elevations mid April and May. The higher elevations and balds are in June and July. Some of the best displays in the park are at Gregory and Andrews Balds or along the Balsam Mountain Road….. William Bartram, an early botanist, discovered flame azaleas in 1791, he described the plant as “certainly the most gay and brilliant flowering shrub yet known.” I can personally recomend the Balsam Mountain and Heintooga Ridge Road in the Great Smoky Mountains as a great place to view these beautiful Azalea often you’ll see them side by side with Mountain Laurel in a brilliant display

Kootenay National Park is located in southeastern British Columbia Canada covering 1,406 km² (543 mi²) in the Canadian Rockies and forms part of a World Heritage Site. The park ranges in elevation from 918 metres (3,011’) at the south-west park entrance to 3,424 metres (11,235’) at Deltaform Mountain. Kootenay forms one of the four contiguous mountain parks in the Canadian Rockies; the other three being Banff National Park directly to the east, Yoho National Park directly to the north and Jasper National Park which does not share a boundary with Kootenay National Park. Initially called “Kootenay Dominion Park”, the park was created in 1920 as part of an agreement between the province of British Columbia and the Canadian federal government to build a highway in exchange for title (property) to a strip of land on either side of the route. A strip of land 8 km. wide on each side of the newly constructed 94 km. Banff-Windermere Highway was set aside as a national park. While the park is open all year, the major tourist season lasts from June to September. Most campgrounds are open from early May to late September while limited winter camping is available only at the Dolly Varden campground. The park takes its name from the Kootenay River, one of the two major rivers which flow through the park, the other being the Vermillion River. While the Vermillion River is completely contained within the park, the Kootenay River has its headwaters just outside of the park boundary, flows through the park into the Rocky Mountain Trench, eventually joining the Columbia River. The Banff-Windermere Highway, #93 follows the path of both rivers through the park. source: wikipedia Taken with a Nikon D70s with a 18-200mm Sigma lens
The pastures in the desert overflow [with richness]. The hills are surrounded with joy. (Psalm 65:12) I took this photo of Monument Valley, Arizona, back in 1997 with my Olympus OM-10 camera. Camera technology sure has come a long ways. / I loved the views back then and then saw it again in 2008. The landscaping looked different for me then. It did not seem as awe-inspiring as when I was 32 years old, but then again, is it times that change or people? This is best viewed as a larger image. This was taken as is,scanned from my OM-10 Olympus Camera, untouched. / /
Soon after the sun rises and the alpenglow fades, the lighting evens out and gives more natural daytime colors. The wind dies down and gives better reflections and the wildlife comes out to greet the new day. I saw a couple of deer while photographing that morning. They were wandering across the lakeside on the right. The fishermen started coming out in numbers around this time and made things a little tough on me since I was set up right near the marina and had to wait wile boats passed through my viewfinder every few minutes. In the end though, it was a beautiful summer morning that I wish I could experience everyday.

Autumns colors are some of the showiest in nature. The warm hues must be intended to raise our spirits before the cold of winter. Nature could also be trying to show us even though they have been green all year and appear to be one; they are many different individuals which are very different. That being different didn’t stop them blending in as everyone else. Regardless of the why the beauty is fabulous. I hope that you are blessed as well as I with fabulous fall color, in your area of the world…..image was taken on New Found Gap Road from the Oconaluftee Valley Overlook, GSMNP…hill to the left appears steep as the road was cut from it

If you don’t mind difficult hiking on steep rugged trails you’ll love seeing over 20 waterfalls at Ricketts Glen State Park, Red Rock, Pennsylvania. Taken 9/12/09 on a misty, rainy morning. This is the Lake Lehigh Trail that leads to the east side of the rugged Falls Trail.
This is untouched – the colors were so vivid when the sun came out in this meadow. Taken on the way up Stinson, Mt, continuing to blaze our trail, these trees made me stop for a bit!
