Pendle Witch Country, in the Lancashire Pennines, is an area lying between (but also including) the north western edge of Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley, to the north and north east of which are Bowland, and the south western Yorkshire Dales respectively. The area is dominated by the dark brooding mass of Pendle Hill (shown above) and made famous (nay infamous) for its grim and fiendish association with the “Witches of Pendle”...

A groomed walking trail in the woods at Oka Park, during the winter, and an beach/park access road in the summer, Quebec CANADA. There was not a soul in sight today when we walked there. The silence was incredible, all we could hear was the crunch of the snow beneath our feet, the occasional rustle of our winter coats as we moved our arms, and our breath as we inhaled and exhaled. The trees shielded us from the wind. It was a very peaceful experience. At the very end of this path is the beach, now of course completely hidden by a layer of snow, but an inviting open space when we arrived, and we happily made our way to the lodge for a fireside sip of hot chocolate. / Taken mid-afternoon on December 31st/08, New Year’s Eve. Lover’s Key is a small group of mangrove islands located in Lee County between Ft. Myers Beach, Fl, and Bonita Beach. It’s right on the Gulf of Mexico. The islands are collectively known as Lover’s Key State Park (formerly Carl E. Johnson Park). Inland backwaters full of fish, birds, and marine life, separate the islands from each other. Boats with motors are not allowed within the Park, but motorboats are allowed in the Gulf and Bay waters surrounding the Park, and there is a boat ramp within the park. This is to protect the abundant wildlife, which includes -manatees, dolphins, various herons and roseate spoonbills, ospreys, bald eagles, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, snook, mullet, rays, and a large variety of shellfish. / the driftwood is part of the beauty of the remains from our famous Hurricane Charley sweeping in 2004 ( all of these from this series are straight as is from the camera) a real friend is someone who takes a winter vacation on a sun-drenched beach and does not send a card* —Farmer’s Almanac

Today’s hike on windswept snow in part of the Chugach mountain range, Alaska, overlapping state and national parks. Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams featured – Thank you! Nikon D200 and a Nikkor 18-70 at 18mm at f/9 and 1/1250 sec, -.3ev. Using a circular polarizing filter. / Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX2. Light curve added. Otherwise, as is. Constructive comments welcomed, i.e., too much foreground, foreground too angled? Not enough interest unless one is there in the wind and cold air, breathing in nature and silence? Okay to comment; I have 6GBs of shots remaining.

For Jan Timmons whose wonderful forum thread here has been the most enjoyable and thought provoking fun… A wonderfully sited bench on the shore of st mary’s loch, enjoyed by the club sailors there and a resting spot for visitors and hikers along scotlands southern upland way. Running runs from coast to coast this bit of the path goes along the lochside between historic Traquair and the Tibbie Shiels inn.. both places with fascinating history… Taken 5/6/09 with a witness to attest this is scotland and the sky really was this colour… !! ... tho it was chilly enough for the capsizing sailors there…LOL.. :)) Nikon D60 / Nikkor lens VR 18-200 / UV filter / Tripod and selftimer!!! f/13 / 1/160sec / ISO200 / 18mm Cheers and thanks heaps for looking / :))))))

I love rainy, overcast, windy days. Someone has to, I suppose. The pink/purple of the fireweed has yet to reach its full splendor. As Alaskan legend has it, when fireweed blooms all the way to the top of its spire – the six-week countdown to winter begins. Some of us can hardly wait. It felt great to get out in the elements! We have several places we like to walk or hike at. This particular refuge is home to a family of bobcats. This young male came sauntering down the path towards us without any concern. We moved out of his path and he continued on without stopping. San Joaquin Wildlife Refuge, Irvine, CA, USA

The Faerie pools are very photogenic, and I like them best on a ‘bad’ weather day, when you can attempt to capture the mood of the surrounding dark and brooding mountains. This view is looking towards a famous climb, called “Stovepipe Gully”. / The rocks are slippery, not an easy place to set up a tripod, and I have been observed by more sane folk than myself, crawling on hands and knees for the best vantage point ! / There is a trail/walk alongside the burn and various pools that goes quite some way into the hills, amidst very grandiose scenery….....but prepare for wet feet, the ground is amazingly boggy here …...... and those rocks you have to clamber over to get your shot ? EXTRA slippery !! This is a three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on the tripod, polariser fitted, to lose two stops of light for the blur effect, f27, underexposed by half a stop, then a +2EV and -2EV from that reading, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Photomatix, then in Adobe CS3 with various tweaks to colours etc., and where the water was burned out by the HDR process, layered in parts of the original 0EV file.
