Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, about four miles or 6 km south of Page. Accessible via a 3⁄4-mile (1.2 km) hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista. / This image is actually made of 4 pictures taken with my Canon 20D – 17-40mm L lens and stitched together to create this panoramic

All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget… In this, as in other ways… they are the opposite of paintings… Paintings record what the painter remembers… Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting… may change its meaning… according to who is looking at it…. / John Berger There are actually 3 levels along this portion of the McCloud River in the Shasta-Cascade region of Northern California… a Lower, Middle and Upper Falls… obviously by my caption of this shot… you are viewing Middle Falls. The hike is very scenic back to the Falls, and not overly crowded either. It was like having our own private little waterfall both times we visited this area, as we had the place literallly to ourselves….

Located near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park, New South Wales, Australia. / The rock hangs into the Grose Valley. This spot is 2 hours drive west of Sydney & then an hours walk to this site. The area is not fenced or well signposted. You need good hiking boots because of the steep surfaces & loose gravel. I wouldn’t reccommend taking children there. / The rock is much bigger than it appears here, but I wasn’t game to get too close to the edge of the cliff. Background Information: / Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6183 feet (1884 m). The lake has a surface area of 0.5 km². The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. The lake gets its color from the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis. Morrain Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. Right in the heart of the rockies this beautiful lake is well known for it beautiful water and one of the most photographed areas in the world. When I head for the mountains this is always the first place that comes to mind : ) / /

The Faerie pools are very photogenic, and I like them best on a ‘bad’ weather day, when you can attempt to capture the mood of the surrounding dark and brooding mountains. This view is looking towards a famous climb, called “Stovepipe Gully”. / The rocks are slippery, not an easy place to set up a tripod, and I have been observed by more sane folk than myself, crawling on hands and knees for the best vantage point ! / There is a trail/walk alongside the burn and various pools that goes quite some way into the hills, amidst very grandiose scenery….....but prepare for wet feet, the ground is amazingly boggy here …...... and those rocks you have to clamber over to get your shot ? EXTRA slippery !! This is a three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on the tripod, polariser fitted, to lose two stops of light for the blur effect, f27, underexposed by half a stop, then a +2EV and -2EV from that reading, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Photomatix, then in Adobe CS3 with various tweaks to colours etc., and where the water was burned out by the HDR process, layered in parts of the original 0EV file.
