It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6183 feet (1884 m). The lake has a surface area of 0.5 km². The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. However, when it is full, it is a beautiful shade of blue. • Located near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park, New South Wales, Australia. / The rock hangs into the Grose Valley. This spot is 2 hours drive west of Sydney & then an hours walk to this site. The area is not fenced or well signposted. You need good hiking boots because of the steep surfaces & loose gravel. I wouldn’t reccommend taking children there. / The rock is much bigger than it appears here, but I wasn’t game to get too close to the edge of the cliff. Featured in National Parks of the World on June 4, 2009, Blue Mountains of NSW group, Oct 8, 2008 & Your Country’s Best group on November 5, 2009. This image appears in the Blue Mountains 2010 calendar.

  • These are the Julian Alps in Slovenia, so named for Julius Caesar. Photo was taken while hiking in these beautiful mountains. Just as we were going into a forest I looked back. And this is what I saw. / . / This is a handheld one-shot HDR post-processed image. Using Levels on PS, I simulated 5 bracketed shots and merged them in Photomatix. / . / Nikon D70 / Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G / Aperture: f/9.5 / Exposure: 1/125 / Focal Length: 31mm / ISO: 200

  • Here’s another shot of Garibaldi Lake which is location in Garibaldi Provincial Park. This image is part of this series of HDR images I took when we did this 18 to 20 km hike (return). It’s one of the easiest hikes around and can be done summer like winter in about 7 to 8 hours return. When you get to the campground on a clear day, your rewards is this ridge of glaciers feeding this alpine lake. This one hiking trail links up to other which brings you over and around the ridge to the right onto another plateau which I’m hoping to do this summer, probably a 2 or 3 day hike. Canon Xt with a sigma 17 -35mm lens, 2.8 / HDR treatment in photomatix, and better viewed full screen Other images part of this series are : / / /

  • Grand Canyon National Park, through US National Parks This Image was taken at Yaki Point during a trip to Grand Canyon. Yaki Point is one of the most beautifull lookouts on the south rim and if you ask me the best on during sunrise! / I was there sometime between 4am and 5am in the morning to do some scouting with my flashlight since it was my first day at the canyon. Although I couldn’t see much of the canyon yet the tree you see in the foreground instantly appealed to me as a nice framing. After some more scouting I came back there, set up my tripod and waited, enjoying the sunrise. / I was lucky the strom you see building up on the horizon waited long enough to let the sun through for some minutes. Not much later it was all hung over and snowing. / I love this shot because it seems like everything fit together for me. The time window for this shot was so short and it seems I also selected the right place :-) I came back there the following two days and just didn’t have the same magical light! and after more scouting also didn’t find a better place, at least for me. kind regards, / Michael also available:

  • 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 30 / Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5 / ISO Speed 3200 / Focal Length 18.0mm / Flash at 1/16 power and about 12 or 13 paper towels for diffusion. “One Night Under the Milky Way” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr
