Again, continually obsessed with the Italian signage and autostrades – and then all of a sudden this landscape just cried out to me. It was so perfect, just the way I like it – sparse, remote, golden and with a hint of industry driving past. I waited, risking a small amount of life and death, waiting for the right vehicle to drive past – could not have asked for anything better as this truck with perfect streamlined graphics appeared matching perfectly with the blue sign and all. I’m done!

Info for the 101 group; / Shot late morning (not the best time of the day I admit) 70MM,f25, speed lost as it’s been through the Photoshop mill. / Loads of techniques used, but one that can make a difference if you like the texture look. / Take a pic of textures you see, such as brick walls, concrete is a goodie, crumpled paper etc and drop them on to your image within photoshop. Fiddle around with the blend modes and your will be surprised at the results. To darken images I often apply a new layer, then edit/fill/50% grey and set the layer blend mode to Overlay. I then grab a Soft brush with foreground colour set to black and an opacity set to between 3-5% and paint away. The idea is to darken parts of the image so that the lighter bits guide the viewer thru the image. They did this in the dark room days and called it Burning. You can also duplicate the layer and use the Burn tool for much the same effect with a choice of what you wish to effect: Highlights,Midtones or Shadows.

I wanted a image, that I think of alot about. This Poem was written by Vanesse Cathleen who is here on redbubble, i thought it suited this image. The Party Is Over You have been traveling down a one way street. / That will only take you to your personal defeat. It all starts out having fun with your friends / but it doesn’t take long until the parting ends. Your life gets hard, your funds get low, / depression begins to creep in slow. You have warn yourself out, your body is tired. / Your brain is warped yet, you keep getting wired. Your party has lasted a little too long. / No one will listen to your sad twisted song. Now you are traveling a little to fast / and it’s about time to make this all part / of your past. You are near the end / What will you do? Drive on… Drive off… / It’s Up To You!!! I took this photo on 07/13/06 on a vacation with my husband; we began in Redding, CA went over to the Northern CA coast and headed north…. went clear up to Tillamook, Oregon. We followed the shoreline all the way, on this wonderfully scenic trip. This is just one of many images which I am pleased to be able to share; I hope you enjoy….. / / / ___ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. Built in 1936 at MP 141.68, just south of Newport is one of several toll-free bridges forming a part of the Oregon coast highway, US 101. This bridge is located in the city of Newport. YAQUINA BAY (NEWPORT) BRIDGE / The structure is a combination of both steel and concrete arches. The main span of the 3,223-feet structure is a 600-foot steel through arch flanked by two 350-foot steel deck arches. There are five reinforced concrete deck arch secondary spans on the south end of the steel arches and fifteen concrete deck girder approach spans. Decorative elements include ornamental spandrel deck railing brackets, fluted entrance pylons, and a pedestrian plaza with elaborate stairways leading to observation areas. / (Excerpt from: Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon Coastal Highway Bridges) / / This is the image on the egov.Oregon.gov webpage.
We’re all looking for a sign (every now and then), this is where I want to be – in a pure minimal landscape… oh, and that also sells Italian food!
Stand & Deliver Mixed Media, lots of layers and textures. / Moll Cutpurse is the only highway women I’ve found any reference to although I’m sure there were more…probably too smart to get caught;) Moll Cutpurse’s real name was Mary Firth, a bit of a tomboy, always ready for a rumble and happiest in the company of men. / Sources on her history are a little conflicting but she was a bit of a roguette and after pulling a big job on a Lord, brided her way of goal and the business finding it safer to work as a fence…..a fascinating character from the early 1600’s. Von kindly posted this wonderfully fitting poem / The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, / The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, / The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor, / And the highwayman came riding- / Riding-riding- Sales to date: 2 / Available as a framed print, matted print, poster and card. Many thanks to Geoff Coleman for graciously lending me his lightening bolt to create this image. He hasn’t seen it yet so I hope he likes it! The highway image was taken on our trek across the Nullabor Plain when we moved from WA to Tasmania, on the part where there is not one single bend in the road for 100km’s… or is it 100miles? Oops… I forget, nevermind, I am sure someone will let me know =) It’s a bloody long stretch of straight road anyways ;) Stormchaser I no longer hide under the bed =)
