Many times I’ve been alone / And many times I’ve cried / Any way youll never know / The many ways I’ve tried But still they lead me back / To the long winding road / You left me standing here / A long long time ago / Don’t leave me waiting here / Lead me to your door Lennon/McCartney / (The Long and Winding Road)

SITTIN’ ON) THE DOCK OF THE BAY / - written by Otis Redding and Steve Cropper / - lyrics as recorded by Otis Redding December 7, 1967, just three / days before his death in a plane crash outside Madison, Wisconsin / - #1 for 4 weeks in 1968 Sittin’ in the mornin’ sun / I’ll be sittin’ when the evenin’ come / Watching the ships roll in / And then I watch ‘em roll away again, yeah I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay / Watching the tide roll away / Ooo, I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay / Wastin’ time I left my home in Georgia / Headed for the ‘Frisco bay / ‘Cause I’ve had nothing to live for / And look like nothin’s gonna come my way So I’m just gonna sit on the dock of the bay / Watching the tide roll away / Ooo, I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay / Wastin’ time Look like nothing’s gonna change / Everything still remains the same / I can’t do what ten people tell me to do / So I guess I’ll remain the same, yes Sittin’ here resting my bones / And this loneliness won’t leave me alone / It’s two thousand miles I roamed / Just to make this dock my home Now, I’m just gonna sit at the dock of the bay / Watching the tide roll away / Oooo-wee, sittin’ on the dock of the bay / Wastin’ time SONG

Within the exuberance of youth / peering through a glass darkly / the discovery of gender gets lost / on the road to the Mad Hatter’s feast. / It is a journey mired / in the midst of a quiet oblivion / where the tasting is compulsive / and the passion is born of an injured trust / that remains huddled / in the corners of a fading innocence. / The distorted faces of others / becomes the image of self / so trying to please the crowd / is no longer an option. / The road narrows down and / all the safe havens dwindle / until nothing can be drawn / except the final conclusion / where the soul is left dangling / in search of the last straw / that will break the camel’s back. © Hickerson Book Preview

Inspirational Series / ........................................... We are frail in this life / Never knowing when challenges will strike / Challenges that will threaten our existence / And put into doubt our ability to endure / We who are strong should bear the failings of the weak / So that they may know the peace of ‘holding on’ and ‘getting through’ / Coming out edified at the other end / For what has happened before will happen again / And it is through encouragement and endurance that we persevere / It is God whispering through our hearts and minds / That gives us divine understanding of the promises our creator / Showers over us in times of need / So it is with a calm spirit of unity that we move forward / With one heart © Donna Hickerson Inspired by Romans 15: 1-6
