A favourite scene of mine, which I photographed several times at all seasons of the year. We only had one day of snow in Hertfordshire in 2007, so I made a special effort to drive out to capture this image, which made a nice Christmas card for special friends and relations. It’s taken near the village of Whitwell in Hertfordshire.

Batford Springs is a small nature reserve beside the River Lea as it flows between Harpenden and Batford. This image shows an old mill pond through which a side channel of the river flows before joining the main current over a little weir.

The Lea Valley Way tracks the river from its source in Leagrave in Luton to its confluence with the Thames at Bow. On this section from Harpenden to Leasey Bridge it follows the course of an old railway line.

I took this shot or the old fence in front of the Rape Seed fields while in the area of Hadley Wood. It is close to the border of Hertfordshire and is located in the London Borough of Enfield. A lot of high class properties are in this area with A list celebrities residing in them. The day was a little overcast and somewhat hazy in the distance but I love this shot for the beautiful colour of the rape seed fields and of course the main feature, the old fence in the foreground weathered with age. The B&W version is my favourite as it brings out more detail in the timber of the fence and is more dramatic.
