I think I just might have come up with a brilliant idea. / Is anyone hooked on the TV show Heroes as much as I am? It is a show about people who have super powers / There is a character on the show named “Sylar” / He is supposedly the bad super hero. / He can absorb other peoples powers by eating their brains. I went on a shopping spree yesterday and bought lots of cards. My IDEA (ok kind of a stolen idea, buts it my idea with a twist) I eat all of your cards and absorb your artistic powers. / I will report back and let you know how this goes. / I am thinking I just might need some ketchup or something. / Also I didn’t really feel like finding everyone and trying to eat your brains. / Kind of made me gag a little bit. Not sure I could handle that. Anyways…...... / ALL BOW TO ME. I CANNOT BE STOPPED. / Ruler of the Bubble / I am gonna eat all your cards. MUHAAAA MUHAAAAA LOL. Thought I would share with you all of you how warped my mind is. / I have issues.

A list, in no particular order My dad – for being who he was; for being courageous in death; for the the things he taught us by example My mom – for suffering a disease nobody should have and trying to keep her dignity My husband – for his kindness, his support, his love, no matter what is going on People who stand up for their beliefs, even when it gets ugly Friends who stick by you, even when you’re miserable Artists who dare Kids who make you smile ...too many more to list. People come in and out of my life, and all of them leave a little something – whether good or not so good. Each one makes some small change in me, maybe not too noticeable, but what I do with the things that are left on my life by the imprints they leave can shape who I am and what I become. It’s up to me to do something good with those things I guess.

I had a happy day this week when my DVD of The American Astronaut arrived. / Website here. Not to be confused with a movie which starred Johnny Depp. I saw TAA at the Revelation Film Festival a few years back and I’ve never forgotten it. It sits in a genre all its own: the Western space travel musical. Part of its enormous appeal for me lies in a simple coincidence of timing. It screened not too long after Star Wars Episode 1 opened in Perth – a truly leaden movie upon which millions were squandered, beside which The American Astronaut could hardly fail to impress. It doesn’t thumb its nose at the conventions of Hollywood-style space travel; it refuses to acknowledge them altogether. The hero’s spaceship is an old steam engine; his journey is depicted in drawings; and he can’t land anywhere without half-burying his ship. Finding someone who can dig him out is always a priority. My expectations were confounded again and again. This scene is a good example. When the bearded man says “That’s him,” you know what’s coming next, don’t you? / Not this time.

I have today sold my 2nd t-shirt, just when I thought I was never going to sell anything else! Huge thanks to Andy Harris for buying Are You My Mommy which was one of my early t-shirt designs, so it is good to see the depths of your portfolio can still be found. Andy also has some nice stuff too, I especially like his Save the Cheerleader… shirt, which seems quite appropriate as I am typing this while my son catches up on the Heroes Unmasked episodes from the Sky+ box. Thanks again. Mark

Tank Man is a popular cult hero. I have now sold 5 of these shirts to complete strangers My Tank Man Shirt was something that appealled to me and it give me great satidfaction that others share my interest in this lone hero. I remember seeing the news footage back in 1989, I was just 21 back then, and I was amazed at the courage of this lone ‘soldier’, he believed in what he stood for and he was not afraid to stand up for freedom, depite the odds being heavily against him. The image has stuck with me for years, like the Space Shuttle exploding and the SAS storming the Iranian embassy, and it made an impression on me at the time and thanks to all you kind RedBubblers it has made yet another impression on me again. I still think the guy is a hero, and I hope he is alive and well and enjoying the attention he gets from time to time. NOw if only I could have taken the original photograph, that would have been something….oh for a Delorean, a flux capacitor and 1.21 jigawatts of power, right time right place…..

The Hero Foundry is a non profit 501© 2 charity that is hosting a Live Art Show Auction and is in need or Artists and volunteers for the show. / The Hero Foundry continues its mission to increase literacy, inspire creativity, and most importantly, to provide positive role models and moral guidance to today’s youth through the comic book medium. This year we are launching a new reading program that we think will complement our endowments of graphic novels but also allow schools and libraries to directly influence youth with the power comic books. In order to help The Foundry Titan Comics, and The Hero Foundry are joining forces to put on a Live Art Show, Art Auction and Music Event. We are looking for artists who would like to participate in the live art show and/or donate some of their art for the auction. Can you draw, are you creative, do you paint then we need your help! We are looking any artists that create comic books or create fine art on the canvas then we want you to come help a worthy cause during a night of creative philanthropy or people who own original art and want to generously donate a piece from their private collection for the cause. We also need people to spread the word about the show so post this on your MySpace page, a blog, other online venues, send out a bulletin, email, if you work or know someone in the media pass it along and see if you can get an article published about the event, if you know artists then contact them to help out, our if you wish to just come and volunteer your time to help make it a successful event we need you! When: Saturday, September 6th Where: Titan Comics 3701 W. It is tough being a hero…i don’t know if anyone tries to present “airs” of heroism; if so they will not ever stand the test of true heroism or heroic deeds. The heroes that we know meet a tragic opportunity with courage over personal fears and reservations and act for the good of one, the few or possibly even the many. It is in this that the ordinary man is put to the test, compelled to act and place the well being of another above their own…Character is molded in the heat of the forge , and oft forgotten after the purge by those he laid his life down for.

Well, I’ve written about my wonderful son who is not so athletically gifted. But I have another boy – a 13-year-old! Yes, we’re on the verge of manhood and he thinks he knows it all but he’s still wonderful to me. But this blog entry goes back in time. / He’s always been precocious and very cute. He looked like a little kewpie doll when he was little – just a tuft of blond hair growing up in a curl on top of his head and waving slightly at the nap of his neck. Not too pudgy and not to thick – very active. / When we first moved back to Texas we were automatically thrown into the Texas High School Football Phenomenan. The first Friday night of the season we packed up the boys and headed off to the stadium. My husband played high school football in Texas and was offered a college scholarship. (He eventually turned down the scholarship when he went off the college 2-a-days and all the guys were heads and shoulders bigger than him.) We both love the ‘ole pig skin game. / It became very apparent to us that the then 2-year-old Lee had inherited our love of the sport. At half-time he cried until the players came back on the field. He didn’t even attempt to stray away from us – he was mesmerized by the action on the field. When the game was over we didn’t know how he would handle it – but we soon found out when he ordered us to the field so that he could get up close and personal with the players. / The next season he was three and we were ready to attempt potty training. We worked for four or five days without much success. And then Friday night rolled around. He was ready for the game – all decked out in the school colors of purple and gold and had a little football he wouldn’t let go of. At half-time he cried again. At the end of the game it was back down to the field where he latched onto a player who became his favorite “Mogul.” (Our mascot) That’s when the idea hit – back at home we would incorporate a new football potty training plan! / From then on whenever he was “successful” his dad and I would sing the school fight song and march around the house. And that’s what we did. At all hours of the night he would get up to go potty and we would sing and march until we could finally drag back to bed. Luckily this process only took about four days and he was completely potty trained! / Sometimes all it takes in life to grow up is a little music!

  • Ansel Adams - My Hero

“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” – Ansel Adams / “There are worlds of experience beyond the world of the aggressive man, beyond history, and beyond science. The moods and qualities of nature and the revelations of great art are equally difficult to define; we can grasp them only in the depths of our perceptive spirit.” – Ansel Adams What other photographer has had a mountain named after him, has enabled thousands of acres of breathtaking wilderness to be deemed protected and sacred, photographed both a US President and the Japanese internment, captured the true beauty and light of the American wilderness on film like no other, written, taught, exhibited and continues to live on today through his photographs? To me, Adams is the greatest photographer of all time. I have been a fan of Adams for many years and in 2001 had the pleasure of viewing his work (actual photos, not prints) on exhibit at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY and the curator was kind enough to sign and give me a book they created for the exhibit. “A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words.” This quote of Adams is most true of his own work for when I stand in front of one of his pieces I am speechless and filled with emotion. His photography began from a trip he took to Yosemite as a boy – it moved him. Adams’ photos reflect his passion. It is said that he would sometimes take hours developing just one photo in the darkroom – tweaking the shading, tones of black and white to reflect the true mood of the photo as he saw it on that day. He made the photo. My passion is the garden and nature – usually up close – what we miss when we casually walk by. My darkroom is here on my computer – Photoshop. My Canon Rebel XTi is worlds apart from Adams 8×10 box camera. He changed government policy with his photos. I may not be able to do that, nor ever be as incredibly masterful as he was, but perhaps I can strive to stay true to my own passion, inner voice, and keep my eyes wide open and listen for … / “Sometimes I do get to places just when God’s ready to have somebody click the shutter.” – Ansel Adams Interesting Letter from Ansel Adam

The user HTMMAheroes is an account that middle schoolers will be putting their artwork upon. A portion of the profit made will go towards an organization of their choice as well as towards art supplies for the class. It doesn’t matter if you buy something less than five dollars, as long as you are donating to a cause, that’s all that’s important.
