John Lennon played the Rickenbacker 325 ‘58 on most of the tracks on The Beatles Debut album, Please Please Me and since then many other guitarists have turned to Rickenbacker Guitars. / George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Brian Jones, Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, Noel Gallagher. And the man from Decca said guitar groups were on their way out….Looks like he was wrong.

Move Over Rover, Let Jimi Take Over… I completed building my TTV contraption this morning. Not even an hour old, I get bored shooting things in my yard so I pack up the TTV & my dog & head to the Portland Saturday Market. / Less than 10 minutes of walking around with my TTV & Jimi walks up next to me, looks at my camera & says “I usually pose for tips but you look like you’re into some serious shit… C’mon, lets go take some mutha fucking pictures!” / So I did… Image captured thru a Kodak Duaflex into a Canon Rebel XTi

Illustration based on book The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi. Mix of hand done drawing and digital work. Meant to illustrate a meeting between east and west, and the essence of ‘70s youth culture and music. Very much inspired by the music of David Bowie (especially the album Hunky Dory) and Jimi Hendrix, as well as psychedelic poster art, and even Art Noveau.

Jimi Hendrix has long been one of my most favourite musicians. I did this Mandala as a tribute to his incredible and much missed talent playing Purple Haze as the backtrack… The four guitars are four he played often and symbolize his connections with his gift. The top guitar is divine inspiration entering through his crown chakra. / The guitar at his mouth is his connection to his throat chakra and the source of his amazing voice. / The guitar at the base symbolizes his connection with the earth – grounding his phenomenal energy (as above, so below). / The fourth guitar is bringing the music in through his ears – he must’ve heard stuff we can only imagine! / The mandala outer ring is the sheet music intro to “Purple Haze”. Thanks for the music and long will you live in my heart, Jimi. From the original acrylic on canvas commissioned work. / ALL RIGHTS ERESERVED!
