I was playing around with filters in photoshop one day and got this. I love it and it shows off the personality of a bichon so well – haughty, regal, an “I deserve all the attention you are going to bestow on me for I am bichon” type of thing. It also really heightens the whole “i look like a soft toy crossed with a baby seal” thing they have going on. Now…if only I could remember which filters in what order!!

This started out as a little lead pencil sketch while I was on the phone one day. I loved the basic idea of the figure being out on a ledge in space with another creature melding right into itself. It’s not meant to convey a sense of pain but rather of two beings in symbiosis. I guess for me it was probably a little of being caught in a relationship that wasn’t heading in a clear direction and feeling the pull of the other person holding me down. The main figure is holding something that could be an energy conduit, but is struggling to keep this up. The guache painting original is A3 in size and is one of the most time intensive paintings i’ve done. Each brick has more then 8 colours and there are a couple with a face or hidden messages inside them. It took me around 50 hours to complete the entire work, there are many layers you can’t see that were used to build up the intensity of colour.

Watercolour on paper. I’ve scanned this at twice the size and 600dpi so it will have great prints. This is one of my very favourite watercolours and it sold quickly. I knew I’d miss this one which is why I did such a hi res scan.

This one is for my dear, dear friend Renee who will be celebrating her birthday on January 29. Renee and I met when we were in college studying to become teachers. We graduated in 1971 and have kept in touch all these years. We still visit each other regularly, share photos of our kids and grandkids, swap stories, and laugh until we cry or cry until we laugh! She is a one in a million, once in a lifetime, kind of friend, and I cherish her so much. Happy Birthday, Renee! Many many more! Laissez les bon temps rouler! This scene is from the Atchafalaya Swamp, a place which Renee, a fellow Cajun and Louisianian, can well identify with.

Henderson’s relish is produced nearby in Sheffield, UK. Whilst not overly liking this relish, I love that this product, used and known about in many countries, is produced and marketed in such a small place (there are some further small buildings behind this but not a vast factory as you might think…).
