Two chickens out for an afternoon stroll in winter, near Kelso, Borders. They were starting out from the farm just behind me. Where were they going? The other side of the road or the end of it? I seem to recall this was my first attempt at selective colouring (but am willing to be corrected by RBers with a good memory (or, who need to get out more)). This is perhaps my most favourite shot because it has caused so many other people to smile and add comments. Thank you all. I hope it continues to bring joy to many more.

from Aesop’s Fables A Rooster was scratching the ground in a farmyard in search of food for himself and his hens, when he happened to turn up a precious stone. “You may be a treasure to your proper owner,” he said, “but for me I would rather have a single barley corn than all the jewels in the world.” Moral: The value of an object is in the eye of the beholder. Ink drawing with digital color, 2006, part of a series This image has been in the top ten of a challenge for colored art in the Finks of Inks group—thanks everyone!

For this pen and ink drawing I used Rotring Rapidograph, Rotring Isograph and a dip-in pen. I copied the hen from one of my own paintings and the background from a painting I did of Cregneash, Isle of Man. I altered them all a little and blended them together into this pen and ink picture.
