This is my most favourite picture ever. Taken at the birth (c-section) of our daughter by one of the nurses who borrowed our camera. When we got back from hospital we were overwhelmed when we saw it.

Color, wrinkles, nails, veins, slenderness, length, so many things make up a hand, so many characteristics. Each hand different from the last, each hand with it’s own personality, with it’s own story. This hand is of a janitorial woman working in my college. She was taking a break, resting her hand and taking a breath, some peace from her otherwise tiresome day. The contrast of the color of her skin and her clothes, the position and placement of her hand, her posture, everything came together to make this an ordinary yet interesting shot. /

No matter how old you are, you can always count on me. I will be there to lay a hand on your shoulder and bring you comfort when life makes you sad. I will listen to what you have to say, and pay attention to what you can’t say. I will cheer and rejoice, and laugh and cry with you. Most of all, I will love you, always. Written by ~ Charles Dickens: And Angel Voices Say… The pure, the bright, the beautiful / That stirred our hearts in youth; / The impulses to wordless prayers, / The streams of love and truth; / The longing after something lost, / The spirit’s yearning cry; / The striving after better hopes… / These things can never die. The timid hand stretched forth to aid / A brother in his need; / A kindly word in grief’s dark hour / That proves a friend indeed; / The plea for mercy softly breathed / When justice threatens high; / The sorrow of a contrite heart… / These things shall never die. Let nothing pass, for every hand / Must find some work to do; / Lose not a chance to waken love; / Be firm and just and true; / So shall a light that cannot fade / Beam on thee from on high, / And angel voices say to thee… / “These things shall never die.” / All profit goes to Feed The Children As of November 29, 2009 ~ 995 views.
