I shot this image in November 06 while working on the fireground during the Blue Mountains fires. As a rural firefighter (volunteer), it goes without saying that this helicopter, at the time, was a very welcome sight. Many thanks one and all, for voting this image as the new avatar for the Blue Mountains Group

In 1985, after gaining my commercial helicopter pilot licence, I worked as a stock mustering pilot in aeroplanes in order to get experience that would one day let me do the same in helicopters. (However, I hardly ever flew choppers, my employers preferred me to stick to planes.) Sometimes when I finished mustering cattle by plane, I’d join the helicopter pilot to chase the final stragglers into the stockyard. This gave me the perfect chance to set up this shot with the shadow of the Hughes 300. Shot at Brunette Downs in the Northern Territory. Check out my web site www.twistedirony.com, where I’ve got some more aviation pictures, including a sequence of landing up the side of a mountain in New Guinea!!
