Today Helen McLean and I met up to take some photos at her place. That was until we had a streak of craziness and decided to uproot the whole shoot and head into the city. You certainly get some strange looks when you lug around a red armchair on a saturday afternoon amidst hundreds of city goers. Anyway, Helen is slowly getting through all the post production and as each shot goes up I’ll add it to this entry rather than clogging everyone’s activity monitors. Until I get the files via CD later this week, I’m just posting the low res versions. I Heart Collaborations! Lost
by Helen McLeanHere’s my famous red vinyl chair and red phone! These have been used in quite a few photo shoots now – although, this is the first photo where the two items get in the limelight. This laneway is located near Hosier Lane in Melbourne, adorned with graffiti and stencil art. Getting the phone to the laneway from the carpark at Fed Square was easy. Getting the chair there wasn’t!

It was all hands hoay on Saturday for a pirate photo shoot with the always lovely Helen McLean. James Price also came along to hold a reflector for me. I’m a bit nutty when it comes to pirates. I still remember very affectionately going to a school dress up day in grade four in pirate costume. There is something about a bunch of people who sail around and steal gold from other people sailing around that I find interesting. Of course real pirates do a lot worse. Anyways, I’ve been wanting to do a pirate shoot for ages. The thing is, now that I’ve done one, I’m thinking of all the other pirate things I haven’t done yet. So if anyone in Melbourne wants to play dress ups with me drop me a line

Collaborations are possibly the most wonderful things ever. Rather than running around like a chicken with it’s head chopped off, you have a second person to back you up, share the load, carry the props and share in the sense of accomplishment when things go well. Today one of our shots got a mention and short write up in The Age Newspaper. Here we see our hard work paying off. For that shoot, Helen made an apron, scouted a location and photographed. I scouted costume, decorated shoes, orgainsed hair and make up and modeled. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with Helen on an ongoing basis. We take turns modeling for each other and every shoot is a nice blend of both our hard work and you can see both of our tastes and influences. It’s like a happy marriage. Go Us!
