The evening of this year’s festival parade was beautifully warm for the local singers, musicians and dancers and hundreds of visitors from near and far enjoying the festivities on the town square. The midges were out in full force…. Sunset viewed from the small stretch beach just beside the Bowmore distillery over to the other side of the sea loch towards Bruichladdich with its own distillery. The Tiree band Skerryvore played a few numbers. Nikon D200. Sigma 18-200mm. Slik tripod.

  • An old black house given a modern touch. These type of houses are traditional to the western isles of Scotland and sometimes called “Black Houses”. The gaelic name is “tigh dubh” and they were traditionally two layers of dry stone walls with thatch on the roof. The fire was usually in the middle and the floors were either flag stones or hard ground.
