/ Following are the lyrics to the song Turn, Turn, Turn This group was a huge influence on me as a little girl. I adored Judith Durham and her beautiful voice and spirit. I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! Turn! Turn! / originally written by Pete Seeger / The Byrds (cover by The Seekers later) To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to be born, a time to die / A time to plant, a time to reap / A time to kill, a time to heal / A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to build up,a time to break down / A time to dance, a time to mourn / A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time of love, a time of hate / A time of war, a time of peace / A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose / A time to rend, a time to sew / A time to love, a time to hate / A time for peace, I swear its not too late ‘Inspiration Series’ card by Karin Taylor “Seasons” is a mixed media production on thick water colour paper using ink pastel acrylic charcoal and texta, this portrayal is slightly different from the original piece in that I have added a blue background and highlights digitally. I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). The short bars above the letters indicate that they are abbreviations. ‘There is a time for everything, / and a season for every activity under heaven: / a time to be born and a time to die, / a time to plant and a time to uproot, / a time to kill and a time to heal, / a time to tear down and a time to build, / a time to weep and a time to laugh, / a time to mourn and a time to dance, / a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, / a time to embrace and a time to refrain, / a time to search and a time to give up, / a time to keep and a time to throw away, / a time to tear and a time to mend, / a time to be silent and a time to speak, / a time to love and a time to hate, / a time for war and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932

Sacred Universe The ancient motifs of basic circle and spiral are widely recognized as metaphors for fertility, continuity, and the Goddess. Simplicity is deceiving, because the spiraling circle is also the template of physical reality. The design and proportion of sunflower heads, pine cones and snail shells are only a few examples. DNA, cell division, whirlpools, hurricanes, our galaxy, the nature of time itself are all based upon the same blueprint; wholeness and all life being interconnected. Its not surprising many earth centered and eastern cultures emphasize circle and spiral in religious and spiritual philosophy, but abstract thought such as Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, physics, the Golden Ratio, and Phi are all based upon it. Life on the physical, mental and spiritual plane is the spiraling inward/outward journey. Star fire burns in the nucleus of every cell; we are spiritual beings who’ve forsaken our origins. We are all relations; claim the birthright and initiate mending the hoop of the world. Parent to child we form a living bridge, the umbilical cord connecting past with future. / Maybe the universe herself is in a fetal stage, drifting upon the silent current of space and time that is the womb of the great goddess. watercolor on watercolor board. Bless the fire through which we walk. Trial by fire is when we face the most difficult challenges in our lives. We rarely seek it, but all eventually walk this ordeal. There are individuals and societies whose lives are one long challenge and they endure the unendurable, release occurring only through death. For others it occurs in a less drastic form, and a phase of peace follows in which to rest and replenish prana. No matter how torturous the challenge becomes, eventually the flames will subside. In one way or another, like the great cycles of the seasons, tides, cycles of the moon and stars, change must and will occur. The great wheel never ceases to spin. So when the flames and heat of this phase in life have dissipated, reach gingerly into the still warm cinders, representing what remains of the old life, and gently close the hand around what has been found, take it to a safe place. Blow off the fine ash and examine what has been salvaged after the inferno. Whats found depends upon the individual. I don’t know if the manner of perceiving a situation is something we are born with, or a choice we make at some stage along the way. I do know that in any culture, two people with similar lives, even siblings, can experience the same challenge and come away with radically opposed impressions. After a crisis has passed and life stabilized, I’ve sometimes dusted away the ash, and brooding over the past, seen nothing but cinders and chips of blackened bone in my palm. As time passed, however, and pondering the charred bone, I came to realize that what I held was precious. The intense heat of the fire burned off the dross of my inner self, no polluting base metals remained to dull its glimmer. Forgiveness and acceptance of what is had occurred on a deep level, almost on their own it seemed. In this painting I’m attempting to portray that moment of realization, that walking through fire was also a form of purifying radiance. The flames have tempered and fine tuned the spirit, causing it to resonate in mellow tones, and from the ashes emerges a winged spirit of pure gold. The human spirit is resilient, we are far stronger than we imagine. All forms arise then fall back into the void from which they came, nothing lasts forever. Trust the process and open the inner eye. Move into the moment, into the Now, for we are already whole. The person in the image is rising from ashes of the past and unfurling her wings, lifting her head and preparing to stretch her neck and back. She is radiant and illuminates the night with her power. She knows the source of her strength is within herself and all sentient beings, nobody and nothing can take it away. The circle represents wholeness, completion, balance, the feminine, moon and sun. Oh, for a voice like thunder, and a tongue / To drown the throat of war ! When the senses / Are shaken, and the soul is driven to madness, / Who can stand ? / When the souls of the oppressed / Fight in the troubled air that rages, who can stand ? When the whirlwind of fury comes from the / Throne of God, when the frowns of his countenance / Drive the nations together, who can stand ? When sin claps his broad wings over the battle, / And sails rejoicing in the flood of death; / When souls are torn to everlasting fire, / And fiends of hell rejoice upon the slain, Oh, who can stand? Oh, who hath caused this ? / Oh, who can answer at the throne of God ? The kings and nobles of the land have done it ! / Hear it not, Heaven, thy ministers have done it !
