A funny thing happened on the way to Mt. Rainier well before sunrise. I noticed the morning mist rising over Clear Lake and the cirrus clouds fanning out above them and decided that a glorious sunrise on the lake was worth more than a maybe on the mountain. I fumbled my way in the dark via flashlight to the lakes edge and had time to search for composition before the heavens lit up. Not a bad way to start a day at all.

A ray of light on a gloomy day. How fortunate we were to witness this let alone capture it on film. Lake Keechelus relfecting some breaking clouds and a bit heavenly light as it streams through the clouds.

The day summer arrived and it got stinking hot. This shot was taken at 5am and not a cloud in sight. The days temperature climbed up to 40.2°C in Brisbane. Summer is over is just over a week. This morning was certainly what I would expect in winter, crisp, vibrant and cloudless. Keep it coming…love it

From the San Juan Islands while whale watching for Orcas. This was taken with a crappy camera so the Quality isn’t the best but it is still high enough to be enjoyable :) / Red-Orange colors are edited.. or practically fake Cokin ;P.

The holy city of Safed, perched on a mountain top in the upper Galilee, conjures many images to all lovers of the city. The romantic flavor of narrow cobblestone lanes and ancient synagogues fills one’s lungs with a new spirit. The rusty old houses with there domed roofs clearly identifies the city with the mysterious past of the Holy Land. The history of Safed, in real terms, dates back only five hundred years to the beginning of the 16th century. As if out of nowhere, Jews from near and far settled there – as if answering a divine call – and built the largest Jewish settlement in Palestine. Furthermore, great scholars and mystics opened yeshivos in Safed, being an added incentive to other young men of wisdom to settle there. In one sense, the last half of the 16th century was the pinnacle of Torah grandeur which the city experienced. The author of the Shulchan Aruch (Jewish Code of Laws), Rabbi Joseph Karo, sat at the head of the rabbinical court while compiling his compendium of Jewish Law. At the same time, another saintly man by the name of Rabbi Isaac Luria revealed the mystical side of the Torah, called Kabalah. Together these men and their disciples opened new pathways to the Torah which embedded an invisible holiness in the very rocks of the city. Today everyone who strolls through the city is caught off guard by the hidden spirit of Safed which vibrates full of life after so many generations. Not only newcomers are surprised, but even weathered old comers as well. Homage to Safed. The historical building Baracca Faggioni bears the name of the age-old family of “masters of the axe” it belonged to. It is due to be opened to show the ancient skill of building wooden boats and to commemorate traditional seafaring activities. / On the point closing in the bay in the direction of the next village of Fezzano, the vast air force base has kept a part of “Luigi Conti” airport that was built in 1926 as a seaplane base, corresponding to the Muggiano seaplane base on the other side of the Gulf. The Gulf of La Spezia was one of the most active seaplane bases in Italy in the 20’s and 30’s of the last century and was the scene of many actions. Italo Balbo’s study is still intact in the Cadimare structure; amongst others he planned and commanded the first Atlantic crossing in 1931. Two years afterwards when Balbo himself led twenty-five seaplanes as far as Chicago and New York, Marinetti the futurist poet who was very fond of La Spezia invented the “Golfo della Spezia” painting award, at the same time launching a challenge to all poets inviting them to celebrate this place and he himself wrote Aeropoem to the Gulf of La Spezia where the main character leaves with his seaplane exactly from Cadimare airport.
