Sky was half black, half sunshine, very weird day!
This was taken on a recent trip to the countryside, travelling north of Victoria, on the Calder Highway through Kyneton and veering to the right, a town called “Heathcote”. It’s a regular stop for many travellers as it offers quite a few interesting things and a fascinating history, one of them being the first place that “Gold ” was discovered in Australia. This beautiful old building just simply screams at you ” Look at me”.Next time you pass, take a look around at some of the Wineries too.
Our car broke down… what else was I to do, but go snapping with the trusty PENTAX

Sometimes you are lucky enough to be in the right place when the light is perfect. This photo taken in the wide open spaces of Victoria, Australia was just such a time.

In the 1880’s our government had vision and built railways. In the 1960’s our government only saw cars and did all they could to destroy the railways of the state. The line to Heathcote was one of those axed. The old viaducts were not just left to rot, they destroyed the surface so you could not use them even for hiking. It is all about being sure the government cannot be sued for something stupid that someone does. Taken with a Pentax camera on Kodachrome film.
Pink Cliffs Geological Park, Heathcote Victoria. Hydraulic sluicing operations for alluvial gold in the 1870’s created this moonscape of exposed granite. Sluicing was banned on this site around 1880 and yet some 130 years latter very little grows here. D300 / Nikkor 18-200mm VR
