Feeling happy or blue, this is the image for you. A portrayal of the many moods of our heart.
This is exactly what it looks like – a sketch-doodle I made while listening to Pain’s Shut Your Mouth over and over again*, on the 11th of April, 2007. / ... / I’m not going to pretend that it’s art or design, but something about it really appeals to me; it’s like his heart has been SHOT out of his chest and he’s reeling from the impact. / ... / (Or I could be reading too much into it because I’m playing loud industrial music very late at night, and I’ve just had a weird tea that calls itself “Rooibos and Vanilla” but tastes like delirium.) / ... / * The Swedish industrial metal band, Pain, that is, not the American one. Shut Your Mouth is one of my favourite songs, and has a catchy riff that will stay in your head for YEARS. You can visit them on MySpace if you wish, but be warned, their lyrics contain some profanity. / ... / Dear buyers: If purchasing this image as a card (which is an interesting choice and I’m not sure what festive occasion it would be appropriate for), I highly recommend the WHITE backing colour, otherwise it will look like his legs have disappeared. / ... / Image quality: / The preview image to the left has been JPEG compressed by RedBubble for security purposes. The original image is high quality and has true, consistent colours. / ... / / ...

So seeing as i get the Banksy thing a bit on here, i figure why the hell not appropriate his ‘Broken Window Theory’ image. And cause i feel this way right now…hey at least i’m still making art! FYI… / This is based on an article titled Broken Windows by James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling, which appeared in the March 1982 edition of The Atlantic Monthly.[1] The title comes from the following example: “Consider a building with a few broken windows. If the windows are not repaired, the tendency is for vandals to break a few more windows. Eventually, they may even break into the building, and if it’s unoccupied, perhaps become squatters or light fires inside. (Thanks to wikipedia for the text) The Banksy image can be found here part two part three
About pain, time and effort, sometimes no matter how much you have given it will never be returned as love. Give without regret, love given with a full and generous heart is never a waste, it may never be recognized or appreciated. The fact that you are capable of such love is more important than anothers inability to accept or appreciate it. There is no shame or remorse in having ‘spent’ love, love is there to spend and to give… x
Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Ride Like the Wind is a card from the Beach Series and Inspired Series by Karin Taylor….. / in the dark of night she escapes suburbia to find the giant swell of the rolling ocean beckoning her from the shoreline…..she notices a makeshift board on the edge, where the waves ebb and flow in a cheeky hello…....bracing herself, she skims the board through the shallows and onto the wave, which picks her up as though it were cradling her in it’s arms, throws her forward and there she stands in all her glory, the moonlight guiding her way to another land, where in the soft glow of the morning light ~ life will be gentler, people kinder and her heart can mend….... Bewitched She picks boughs of magnolia from the tree in her garden and brings them to me in her fist as though she’s bringing me blooms of her heart to plant as my own. She takes a day off work, treats herself to a drive in the country and leaves 50’s starlet fiction and bites of toffee treacle honey sugar on my doorstep before ringing the bell and skipping away. She reads the language of my face. She paints the clouds with a thousand different reminders, then captures them in a butterfly net and pins them to my wall. She’s the ink and words from a Golden Book come to life. She plays the Mad Hatter so I can play Alice. She knows about the hidden debris, the mess, the harrowed whispers you don’t ever say out loud. And she loves me anyway. copyright © 2008, Holly Ringland.

Originally draw with .05 pen in my A6 sketchbook.. sometimes when i can’t get to sleep, i’d take out my lil sketchbook and doodle as i listen to my (now dead) ipod.. i find it rather relaxing to doodle in the dark.. i don’t need to worry about details.. no worries about me spoiling/hurting my eyes.. i hardly bother to squint.. to me, am just doodling with what little light i get from my brother’s room.. the point of sketching in the dark is to not worry about details and mistakes. so i won’t be stressed about making mistakes.. =D / textured and colored in photoshop.. Inspired by the song When Love and Death Embrace by HIM I’m in love with you / And it’s crushing my heart / All I want is you / To take me into your arms When love and death embrace I love you / And you’re crushing my heart / I need you / Please take me into your arms When love and death embrace / When love and death embrace / When love and death embrace / When love and death embrace
The Scream is basically a piece about violence against women, a subject that really sensitizes me not only for being a woman, but also for being human and for dreaming and working for a better world based on respect and equality. I didn’t want a piece that was oppressing or showed only the pain of the violence or abuse. I wanted something dynamic, that could have a “voice”, that could help people to reflect about how to change things. The symbolism of the piece is quite simple and direct. There’s a dual figure in the center. She might be the same woman in two different attitudes, if you like. The red-haired one is scared and in pain. She holds her bleeding heart and wears a mask to keep herself hidden from judgment or other losses. She might be the one who was raped in a party after drinking too much, the one who was abused for a family member but preferred to hide in order to do not cause disturbances in the family, the one who was beaten for her husband but kept silent for fear of losing her children. She might be one of the Congo women. She might be me, or you. The black-haired woman doesn’t wear a mask. She is screaming – although sometimes I think that she is in fact singing. What she releases from within herself is a bird, red as life. Is the desire for freedom from a world conquered by force, not love. She screams her right to be treated as a human being instead of a second-class citizen, as a partner instead of a subordinate. Her right to express her own ideas and have their own attitudes without being demonized for them. There are also masks at the bottom, a pile of masks without faces behind them. They once belonged to women who decided to scream instead of keep silent and anonymous. That decided to stop pretending that that’s how the world is and there’s nothing that can be done to change it. But there’s so much one can do just by having a voice… And use it to demand respect for being human is urgent.
