The heart of a Calico flower (aka. Dutchman’s Pipevine). The Calico Flower, Aristolochia elegans are large flowers, spanning 6 to 7 inches from top to bottom and about 5 inches across and have heart-shaped look with a velvety-like texture and white abstract lines, the leaves are heart-shaped as well. The vining plants grows rapidly and can cover a fence or trellis in a short time. April 26th of 2009 was an unusually beautiful spring Sunday. The tulips were at their absolute “peak” in central Pennsylvania! I set out in the morning, while everyone else was still sleeping, to capture my self imposed quota of tulip photos for the year. This 1:1 macro photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec at f/22. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable. Your comments are always welcome! Rough-Fruited Cinquefoil prefers dry fields and waste places. / Height: 1 to 2 feet / Flower/fruit: Flat terminal cluster of .5 to 1 inch pale yellow flowers with five petals / Flowering season: Spring into summer / Foilage: Leafy, hairy multi-branched stem; leaves have 5 to 7 narrow, coarsely toothed, 1 to 3 inch leaflets; runners up to 3 feet / I found these in a field near my home in northeast Iowa. /
