collaberation of Sally Omar & Kevin Mawson THE SUBTLE HEART subtle was her heart she kept it under lock and key afraid to open it it had been ripped apart and sewn together so many times it still ached fearful of love fearful of solitude wanting more always getting less she danced alone sang to her mirror made up grand stories of love she had foresaken her dreams lived in disaster rode on the treads of his tires and accepted pain but never revealed her heart she listened to his conquests made small talk made believe she loved him not to be alone subtle was her heart her bleeding heart the one he tore out without a knife but words of disdain and hate yet she stayed she didn’t leave she walked the floors wondering when it would end he threatened to leave made her beg on her knees for him to stay she didn’t want to be alone yet she was so lonely subtle was her heart as he put his tattoo upon it it burned like the fires of hell but she allowed it she didn’t scream she didn’t pull away he crushed her dreams snuffed out her hope walked across her face slapped her thoughts she just continued to smile a fake doll-like smile subtle was her heart as he bounced it like a ball slapped it on the wall tossed it across the net dribbled it and flung it into a basket carried it dripping with blood onto the football field and kicked it so hard it again split in half she picked it up with a needle and thread sewed it back together put it in her chest until the next attack came subtle was her heart as she was placed in her casket all dressed in lace bleeding was her heart that he killed long before she died her breath now ceased she looked like a little broken doll as they closed the lid and as they lowered her into the earth they heard a sob…one single sob her subtle heart finally gave into the pain THE SUBTLE HEART checkout Sally’s other awesome work on / RBsallyomar.
