  • Seasons
    by Karin Taylor

    US$5.23–US$119.32

/ Following are the lyrics to the song Turn, Turn, Turn This group was a huge influence on me as a little girl. I adored Judith Durham and her beautiful voice and spirit. I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! Turn! Turn! / originally written by Pete Seeger / The Byrds (cover by The Seekers later) To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to be born, a time to die / A time to plant, a time to reap / A time to kill, a time to heal / A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to build up,a time to break down / A time to dance, a time to mourn / A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time of love, a time of hate / A time of war, a time of peace / A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose / A time to rend, a time to sew / A time to love, a time to hate / A time for peace, I swear its not too late ‘Inspiration Series’ card by Karin Taylor “Seasons” is a mixed media production on thick water colour paper using ink pastel acrylic charcoal and texta, this portrayal is slightly different from the original piece in that I have added a blue background and highlights digitally. I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). The short bars above the letters indicate that they are abbreviations. ‘There is a time for everything, / and a season for every activity under heaven: / a time to be born and a time to die, / a time to plant and a time to uproot, / a time to kill and a time to heal, / a time to tear down and a time to build, / a time to weep and a time to laugh, / a time to mourn and a time to dance, / a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, / a time to embrace and a time to refrain, / a time to search and a time to give up, / a time to keep and a time to throw away, / a time to tear and a time to mend, / a time to be silent and a time to speak, / a time to love and a time to hate, / a time for war and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

  • Protecting Angel
    by Helena Nelson-Reed

    US$4.16–US$95.00

Watercolor on board Angels! Pure and perfect, the luminous intermediaries between divine and earthly dimensions; recipients of and serving divine will. The spectrum of color in her wings represents a single, concentrated beam of white light entering a prism, and emerging from the opposite side in a rainbow of cascading colors. In just this way, messenger angels receive direct transmissions of resplendent Truth, communicating this Light in myriad languages to all sentient beings. I was in a very positive mood when I painted this one, during a quiet phase when all was well in my own little world. A few months later my dad’s health began its last decline and indications signaled his remaining time was limited. I could almost see ( and certainly sensed ) his life aura fading away during this period, and with it the spirit that was him. During and after that there were some changes in my paintings that only I am privy to. Sometimes, looking back over my work, I recall what was happening in the world and my personal life during the period they were created. Colors and subject matter vary but I recognize the reoccurring patterns. Maybe this is a good reason for us to document our work, so that years later we can remember what would otherwise be forgotten. Here is the birth of a child, there the year of betrayal by a close freind. The winter of deep snow and many storms, a brillant spring, an attack on one’s country, the death of a loved one. Large and small the memories linger, rich and full. The subject matter is irrelevant because on this level the language of imagery is our individual soul -speak. Only the creatrix / creator of these works can summon up these stories from the created material, memories and the emotions they evoke, choosing to share them or not. A powerful medicine, its the artist’s right and choice whether to share this hidden medicine, and with whom…or to keep it silent. May all hearts and minds unfurl, open and prepare to receive and embrace the angel’s message. May we all allow its grace to permeate and saturate both individual and our collective being with eternal, pure light. Like a precious, faceted gem and its sparkle, may humanity become one in the intention and manifestation of unified harmony with one another, earth, and all that dwells upon her. • ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO PHOENIX APPEAL The hand has been a universal motif since ancient times, whether it be a signature, greeting, protective device or healing tool. I’ve been working on a series depicting hands. Inspired by vision, they are few and far apart and like dreams will not be forced or summoned. The painting manifests completed in my mind, every layer of detail woven into the next in the manner of a tapestry; every element in the design holding meaning. When this happens I know its time to get in the studio and paint before the image loses potency and fades away. The hands in these paintings are my own and painted life size. They are meant to be expereinced not only as art, but as a focusing tool. By placing your own hand upon the image and concentrating on the colors and undualting lines, what they represent, and endevoring to sense this within your own fingertips and palms, the mind is directed toward awareness. Occupied, it ceases its chatter and allows you to be directly in the body, in the present moment rather than thought – traveling to the chores and concerns of the future or dwelling in a remembered past . Just focus on feeling the colors and what they symbolize to yourself and imagine pulling this sensation into the hand, to the heart and throughout the body. Then radiate it outward. Dont direct or worry about where its going anymore than the sun and stars concern themselves with where their light shines. Just focus on the sensation. In time you’ll be able to do this practice without a painting. Its a form of cleansing, washing away the dust and debris of the road. This painting itself is a feminine one, representing healer and healing. It was inspired by a friend who practices therapeutic massage, but the modality is not important here. This image is not only about the desire to heal others and self, but the drive and ability as well. I’ve written a few of my notes below. In many cultures butterflies are associated with the unfettered spirit, soul, femininity, and all that is beautiful and ephemeral. Lakota teachings say that butterflies flutter near girls and women, often landing on their shoulders, and convey knowledge regarding the location, harvesting, preparation and applications of botanicals. For this reason the monarch butterfly, so abundant on the prairie, seemed an ideal metaphor to convey the traditional concept of healing, healer, and wellness. The spots are patterned after the border of a monarch’s wing, symbolizing the Lakota woman’s affinity with butterfly medicine, but have other meanings as well. They are stars and fireflies in the night skies of summer, yin to sun’s yang , countering heat, dryness and light with cool, moist darkness. This imagery came one day as I held my hand before the sun, studying the way its shape was cast into deep shadow, almost a silhouette. I could feel the coolness in its shade. The sun flashed between my parted fingers and for a few moments afterward miniature suns danced across my field of vision, even when looking into the shadow of my hand. The two fingers glowing blue at the tips represent healing energy transferred by healer to client. This blue light is positive intention, conscious purpose, the place from which a healer draws power and luminous sky washed clean and purified by summer thunderstorms. The hand is dark (yin), it greets and touches the sun, source of warmth and light (yang). The small blue circle in the palm of hand is the void from which power is drawn. It is infinite, like the sky above. The swirling circle of orange is inspired by the patterns on a monarch’s wing, representing movement, new life, the birthing process, creation. There’s more, but this exerpt provides an idea of my intent. Whats more important is the way it resonates with you. Text copyright Helena Nelson -Reed. Please do not use without written permission.

  • Evolution
    by Marny Barnes

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Stock pic of BG provided by Don Wright. http://www.eyefetch.com/image.aspx?ID=651251 “The childhood memories(or flashbulb pictures as they are commonly referred to) of my parents are all larger than life, looming demons of fury. Twisted angry faces, lunging at me quicker than I can get away from them, hands grabbing me, hitting me, HURTING me. Huge features…the point of view from the child who is physically much smaller than they are. I always try and remember that when I am dealing with my daughter. Get down on the floor…don’t tower over her when I’m angry. Fear is not want I want her to remember me by. / / It’s in me though…there have been moments of pure rage and fury when I have wanted to pick her up and force her to do my bidding. I walk away…I give myself a time out instead of giving her one. I found her in my arms once with that look on her face….she was scared. / I wanted to throw up. / I live everyday comparing myself to my parents. I’ve learned everything I should NEVER do from them. / If I do the opposite of what they would have done we might just be O.K. /

If we no longer venture… toward the warmth of heat / For dread of the burning… of betrayal’s repeat / Then do they win… those who ripped out our hearts / And keep us from feeling… romantic knew starts / How could we allow… them to steal more our joy / When we are no longer their… whimpering toy / So rise up from the muck… and wash off the mire / May our cooperative venture… new lovers inspire!

  • A wierd contradiction happens in Africa. People are so very poor, the only clothes they can get are those given away by charity or sold for a pittance by second hand dealers. Such organisations or traders get their clothes ultimately from the charity bins you and I donate to. Therefore people living in abject poverty wear outfits with brand names emblazoned on them such as: Timberland, Nike or Ralph Lauren. The same names people in the west pay a lot for. Ironic? Yes. Amusing? Yes a little. I came across this beautiful young girl in the ruins of broken lava, homelessness and chaos. She was wearing a light blue dress and carrying a burberry hand bag. Classic. And there’s a trucker cap. / Hey, doin’ good needn’t mean you can’t be cool at the same time. • This woman is a victim of a seemingly never ending war in southern congo. She has suffered sexual violence (rape) so severe it has rendered her incontinent. She now exists purely as a result of a courageous charity called Heal Africa, and indeed her own inner strength and faith. I asked her if I could take her portrait and she stood up (which must have been painful), straightened her back and stared straight down the lens. No stopping to straighten her scarf, no preening, no fear. Just an honesty so raw, so uninhibited and so rare, I caught my breath and thought I’d never breath again. I was totally overpowered by her intensity. After I took the shot and showed it to her she smiled and thanked me. It still gives me a shiver to look at it now. HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! • Heal Thy Self
    by tkrosevear

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Image is a caduceus drawn in paint, enhanced in photoshop with redfield plug-in fractilius. A rod entwined by two serpents and capped with the wings of Mercury. This symbol dates back over 4,000 years, usually associated with divinities in Phoenicia and Babylonia. In Egypt and India where it became the Hindu image of the kundalini. In alchemy it stood for the integration of opoosites (mercury and sulphur). The association with medicine comes from the link between the snake and rejuvenation: a staff with a single snake is the attribute of Aesculapius, god of healing. Jung saw the caduceus as the emblem of homeopathic medicine – the snake that both poisons and cures. This piece accompanies a previous upload called Age of Aquarius as February 14, 2009, an alignment will take place at 7:25am (GMT) for 18 minutes – I invite you, in the Universal Heart, to add your own intentions for love, peace and healing and to co-create the dawning of the age of Aquarius. “The most profound spiritual traditions of ancient times perceived the manifest world, at all scales of existence as being generated and pervaded by a cosmic trinity of active, passive and neutral principles – the divine essence of the masculine, feminine and child. The Vedic sages of ancient India saw the male. active life-force energy they called the pingala and the female/passive energy they called ida weaving around and through our chakras and the child/neutral energy they called the shushumna as channeling up through them. / When these divine masculine and feminine energies are balanced and so able to fully ‘birth’ the divine child energies within us, the ancient sages saw the so-called kundalini energy that otherwise lies dormant at the base of the spine, surge through us enabling us to fully embody our divine nature. / The purpose of the sacred marriage between the divine feminine and masculine that the ancient peoples, such as those of Malta, enacted in their temples was thus not only to bring cosmic harmony and fertility to their land but within themselves. For such balance enables the energetic activation of ‘birth’ of the divine child within us and the attainment of enlightenment. / When this cosmic trinity of consciousness is harmonized and fully expressed within us, we are truly “healed” and “whole” as embodied by the universal symbol of the caduceus, as a representation of healing from earliest times. / For millennia, only the highest adepts understood and have attained such wholeness. But elders and mystics around the world are saying that now is the time, when we have evolved to a point where we are all able to awaken our inner divinity. / This is our spiritual destiny at the dawning of the age of Aquarius.” Jude Currivan, Ph.D. from greatmystery.org We are the World
