  • Come in from the rain
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

“If you can’t stand the pain, / then come in from the rain,” / that’s what I heard him say, / but I didn’t know it’s meaning. I got lost along the way, / somewhere between tomorrow and yesterday. / And his words echoed in my brain, / but I still didn’t know the meaning. / / I thought I saw him today, / but it was just a memory of his face, / And then a stranger walked away. / It was then I realized his meaning. I felt the rain upon my face / washing the pain away… / Now my heart could mend again, / when I understood the meaning. My heart and mind washed clean, / I let him fade away… / He wasn’t worth the pain / the answer now was clear…that’s the meaning. ^This artwork was inspired by the poem Come in from the rain I wrote many years ago after losing someone I loved dearly who did not return that love. I found I could grow through and recover. It taught me the meaning of the mental cleansing and the metaphorical healing of the spiritual rain that gives us new beginnings and lets us wash away the pain. • WARNING: Viewer Discretion Strongly Adviced! This is my first wake-up call in my domestic Violence series. On my old art account I created this series and got quite attention for my work. But what is my goal with that? To manifest with my art that world peace starts at home and you can only end Domestiv Violence when you face the issue and cannot look away from this rapidly growing problem. Could you look away from this artwork? Does this completely caught your attention? It should since those are worlds millions of people hear right now in this very moment and even worse. Did you know: - Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime - The most rapid growth in domestic relations caseloads is occurring in domestic violence filings. Between 1993 and 1995, 18 of 32 states with three year filing figures reported an increase of 20 percent or more. - In a national survey of more than 6,000 American families, 50 percent of the men who frequently assaulted their wives also frequently abused their children. Slightly more than half of female victims of intimate violence live in households with children under age 12. Studies suggest that between 3.3 – 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually. And this is not even the tip of the Iceberg, those are just a few noted statistics, but it is fact that this is not even the half of all “happening” cases around the world. What drove me to make this series? A lot. Someone very close and myself come out of violent families. My life long I have been treated like the sun wouldn’t shine for me too. Years long I have been hid from reality and locked in darkness, I lost my childhood and my youth through domestic violence and I can say that today strong like a rock. My life today is a lot better, my wife gives me the love I never had and felt and I give her the same back in my adornment and service. Unfortunately many woman/children/men go through this hell this very moment but the only problem politicians care about is to build up the nuke stock in their rocket facilities. They rather care to invest more money in war and weaponary as to support families, women and children who deserve a chance to live a happy life like our human and religious right tells us. I want to catch your attention with this image to say to you as a brother of this world, that you have the same rights to live as any other person, your gender, your creed or race doesn’t matter since we are all the same human, the same valuable and same unique and under the face of God are we all the same. Our lifetime is important and how we recieve our family, friends and even our neighbours will not be unseen, the generations will copy your behaviour and treat others the same. So…could you look away? I have a major plan with thi series since I would love to expand this as big as I can (even public plans), the next days will crystalize if I can move someones hearts or not. So, if you look right now at this artwork, and got some free time, leave a comment, and tell me how you feel about it. I can’t and won’t look away.

  • Seasons
    by Karin Taylor

    US$4.70–US$125.40

/ Following are the lyrics to the song Turn, Turn, Turn This group was a huge influence on me as a little girl. I adored Judith Durham and her beautiful voice and spirit. I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! Turn! Turn! / originally written by Pete Seeger / The Byrds (cover by The Seekers later) To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to be born, a time to die / A time to plant, a time to reap / A time to kill, a time to heal / A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to build up,a time to break down / A time to dance, a time to mourn / A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time of love, a time of hate / A time of war, a time of peace / A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose / A time to rend, a time to sew / A time to love, a time to hate / A time for peace, I swear its not too late ‘Inspiration Series’ card by Karin Taylor “Seasons” is a mixed media production on thick water colour paper using ink pastel acrylic charcoal and texta, this portrayal is slightly different from the original piece in that I have added a blue background and highlights digitally. I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). The short bars above the letters indicate that they are abbreviations. ‘There is a time for everything, / and a season for every activity under heaven: / a time to be born and a time to die, / a time to plant and a time to uproot, / a time to kill and a time to heal, / a time to tear down and a time to build, / a time to weep and a time to laugh, / a time to mourn and a time to dance, / a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, / a time to embrace and a time to refrain, / a time to search and a time to give up, / a time to keep and a time to throw away, / a time to tear and a time to mend, / a time to be silent and a time to speak, / a time to love and a time to hate, / a time for war and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

This is the first piece that I read during my Mindfulness training…it holds a special place in my heart….as does the colour blue… Derek Walcott – “Love after Love” The time will come, when, with elation, / you will greet yourself arriving / at your own door, in your own mirror, / and each will smile at the other’s welcome, / and say sit here. Eat. / You will love again the stranger who was your self. / Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, / to the stranger who has loved you all your life, / whom you ignored for another, / who knows you by heart. / Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, / the photographs, the desperate notes, / peel your own image from the mirror. / Sit. Feast on your life.

  • Your Mother...For One More Day
    by Michael J Armijo

My mother passed away on January 24, 2000. Perhaps I am writing this now because it is January and that ‘shocking’ event is being refreshed in my mind. In 2006, I saw a book at a Starbucks in Napa Valley called FOR ONE MORE DAY by Mitch Albom. I had read his previous book TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE and my mom read it and loved it as well. This new book was about a grief-stricken young man who goes into an alcoholic tailspin when his always-attentive mother, dies. So, of course, I had to read it. I certainly did not go into an alcoholic tailspin after my mother passed away but I thought I would get something out of it. I was also intrigued because I really did want my mother “FOR ONE MORE DAY”...and I thought this book might do the trick. Fast forward a month and I was impressed by a few lines from the book. I wasn’t over the TOP thrilled. It was a different story. It was not like my relationship with my mom. I underlined the words that impacted me and planned to go back to re-read them. A year would pass and this book remained at my bedside table until… Enter Christmas Day 2007 when my cousin, Linda Tafoya-Korenke, sent me two books. Can you guess what one of the books was that I received as a gift? Yes, the same book FOR ONE MORE DAY. The fact that the book entered my life once again I re-read the sentences that impacted me from the book when I read it in 2006. Now I’m so thrilled that I re-read the recent excerpts that I underlined as they help me NOW during this January month. They are all so significant. I share these lines with you now: For One More Day / by Mitch Albom These are the words/sentences that impacted me from that book. By Michael J. Armijo Every family is a ghost story. The dead sit at our tables long after they have gone. When you’re rotten about yourself, you become rotten to everyone else, even those you love. I think what you notice most when you haven’t been home in a while is how much the trees have grown around your memories. When death takes your mother it steals that word forever (“MOM”). In time I came to view that event the way you view a faded vacation photo. It’s just someplace you went a long time ago. I don’t know what it is about food your mother makes for you…but it carries a certain taste of memory. Reading is like talking, so picture me talking to you there: I love you every day. Sometimes, kids want you to hurt the way they hurt. “I did what mattered to me.” …believe in…memories, they will pull you back together. / I met a man once who did a lot of mountain climbing. I asked him which was harder, ascending or descending? He said without a doubt descending because ascending you were so focused on reaching the top, you avoided mistakes. / / Did my old man slide back into foggy absentia, the occasional phone call, the Christmas card. “When someone is in your heart, they’re never truly gone. They can come back to you, even at unlikely times.” She was called back to people by their memories of her. “It’s still nice to be thought about, you know.” “It’s such a shame to waste time. We always think we have so much of it.” Do you ever think while something is happening, about what’s happening someplace else? “Your mom. She died.” : They are different than other words. They are too big to fit in your ears. They belong to some strange, heavy, powerful language that pounds away at the side of your head, a wrecking ball coming at you again and again, until finally, the words crack a hole large enough to fit inside your brain. And in so doing, they split you apart. I realized when you look at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know. “Have a plan. Have a plan.” “Secrets…they’ll tear you apart.” You need to keep people close. You need to give them access to your heart. But there’s a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother’s story, because hers is where yours begins. Sharing tales of those we’ve lost is how we keep from really losing them. One day spent with someone you love can change everything.
