Geometric Shot of my headset at work. i’m a computer help desk tech by day. Who gets extremely bored. So the result it I take really weird shots of odd things that are on my desk. Thankfully the boss seems to understand my photography bug and just shakes his head.

Eat, sleep listen hotel road sign; Headphones also known as earphones, earbuds, stereophones, headsets, or by the slang term cans or face plugs are a pair of small loudspeakers, or less commonly a single speaker, with a way of holding them close to a user’s ears and a means of connecting them to a stereophonic, monophonic or binaural audio-frequency signal source such as an audio amplifier, radio or CD player. In the context of telecommunication, the term headset is used to describe a combination of headphone and microphone used for two-way communication, for example with a telephone

My entry for the sound challenge.
Young people’s paraphernalia certainly looks like a safety hazard when crossing streets or using stairs… Smoke in the eyes, music blasting in the headset, and attention focused on the cellphone, exchanging text messages. Completely oblivious to their surroundings… are they getting disconnected from the world around them? This shot was made in response to our good friend Shawn who challenged us to take a sneaky pic of a person(s) without their knowledge , adding that it should be made from a low angle. I was really sneaky for this one because the stairway was just beside the lobby of a building. I went inside and found that I had this great POV thru the side window, and no one could see me shooting to my heart’s content! The ambiant light was low though, so it’s a bit grainy. Click here to see EVERYONE’s responses to Shawn’s challenge. Here is another shot I made for the same challenge:
I went to Montreal on a photo walk with my sister a few days ago. We took the subway to get there, and had loads of fun shooting everything we found interesting. I have a Nikon D60 without a telephoto lens besides the standard 18-55mm that came with it. Making candid shots without people seeing me is always a challenge, and I feel very uncomfortable when they do realize that I took their picture. When that’s the case, I often try the dazzling smile method and it usually works; they smile back. Pity that I don’t have dimples… That’s why I started to try refining my up-to-now-unexistent-skills for shooting at waist level, without looking into the viewfinder. If my subjects don’t see the blinking autofocus assist illuminator, I’m out of trouble. This shot was made in a moving subway, on our way back. I was sitting at a 90° angle from the man, a little over 3 meters away (9-10 ft). I had my camera bag on knees and my left arm resting on the bag. My camera was still around my neck so I just positioned it unobstrusively, so that the lens rested on my forearm, pointing in the general direction of my subject. I used my remote to trigger the shutter, and hoped for the best. I made a few shots, but it’s only once I got home that I found out that this one had come out very good. I changed the RAW file to black and white in DxO Optics Pro before converting to JPG, and that’s all that was done to it. Otherwise completely AS IS Focal length 55mm / ISO-1600 / Aperture f/5,6 / Shutter 1/10 sec.
