Taken a few miles east of Leicester, near Allexton. Its that time in the UK, just before the wheat gets harvested – heavy heads beginning to nod gently under the weight of the grain, and the weather unable to decide whether it is summer or not, threatening to flatten the crop, just it is ready. Leicestershire is full of distant horizons like this, and the Barley is all but in now, much of the ground already having been put under the plough in readiness for the next crop.

She brings warm winds, tempestuious rain squalls, an explosion of flowers and new leaves and… mosquitos. Drawn specifically on request for a cross stitching friend of mine, who needed her for a trade. The cross stitched version is wonderful!

The clowns still managed to laugh, even in todays Economic troublesome Times. Clowns at the Millicent Show today….a vibrant and ever reminding piece of my childhood….loved playing these at the Victor Harbor Foreshore every Christmas as a young lad.

After quite sufficient rain over the last week in Noosa, it was good to see the blue sky, and sunset. The wetlands in the Noosa basin were higher than normal, making for some spectacular scenery :) The trees are mostly paperbarks in the Noosa Basin, and some hardy salt and sand resistant species of pine. A male yellow headed blackbird near Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park, USA. Nesting amongst reeds in marshes, the yellow headed blackbird feeds on insects and seeds. Migratory in nature, yellow headed blackbirds breed through the central United States into northern Canada. Winter grounds extend from the southwestern United States well into central Mexico. Common among songbirds, the male is the one blessed with spectacular plumage while females sport drab black and brown feathering. While the yellow headed blackbird is a flagrantly beautiful bird, it’s normal call is entirely non-melodic, raucous and harsh.
