  • The Norah Head Light House is situated on the Central Coast of NSW Australia just near Budgewoi and Toukley. It was built in 1903. Because of concerns about the number of shipwrecks in the area, Edward Hargraves strongly campaigned to have a light house erected in the area. The Gwydir was lost here in 1894 with the loss of three lives and sometime earlier a boat with 20 Chinese seamen was lost. It was the last of the lighthouses built in the style of James Barnet. Even though it bears the typical characteristics of his style it is not known whether Barnet or his successor C W Darley who built the tower designed it. The tower is a precast concrete block structure where the blocks were cast on the ground and raised into place. Earlier Barnet towers had the same style but their construction was expensive due to the availability of suitable stone and the use of stonemasons to shape and dress the stone. The light was upgrade in 1923 to a Ford-Schmidt kerosene burner that increased the its brilliance from 438,000 to 700,000 candlepower. In 1961 it was converted to mains electricity and the power increased to 1,000,000 candlepower. It is not known when the tower was automated and demanned. Overnight accommodation is available in the two cottages on the property. / /

  • Some of you may recognise this. These images were shot the same day I got that image entitled “Fleeting Beauty” (which you can see buried deep somewhere deep in my redbubble gallery!). I knew I’d taken a series of images that morning from my bedroom window – it truly was an exceptionally beautiful sunrise scene, with the sea mist rolling in over Bray Head acting as a natural graduated filter. I just did a Search on my PC & found them all, RAW versions too! These RAW to jpeg conversions images have had minimal manipulation in Picasa 3. When I’ve got my head around PhotoShop a little more I’ll possibly revisit them…

  • Portland Head Light, Cape Elizabeth ME

  • Easter we reflect our thoughts of Jesus how he died and how he has rose, I took this image and was using my foot as a mini tripod 1.6 sec as you can see it slipped off, but what has come out from this has made me sit back and think not only of Jesus but also of others that we have lost. This Easter i ask you to think about some one you have lost, think about them with fond memories. / . / Always remember to forget the things that made you sad. / But / Never forget to remember the things that made you glad.
