This was supposed to be a practice piece to get me back into it and I got lucky. / There’s precious little thought in the concept but it is inspired by a real person. / Hmmmmm. / I got nothing else, what do most people type in here? The ladies of Nebaj, Guatemala are famous for their flambouyant traditional dress. The turban-style head wrap is particularly characteristic. Favored colors change from year to year – this year, green was in style. The isolated village was finally connected to the rest of Guatemala by a paved road just a year ago.

Santiago is a traditional Mayan village located on the shore of beautiful Lake Atitlan in the highlands of Guatemala. The major tribal group in the village are the Tzutujil People. The Tzutujil Ladies are famous for their “halo” headdresses. Unfortunately, these are now rarely seen, worn only by a few elderly village ladies..

Spun this girl out pretty quick, inspired by some polished turquoise, believe it or not, that’s all it took, I wanted a subject in bright light to show off the brilliant blue, and this girl came along. Inked most of it out on paper, colored it digitally, Purposefully disproportional head by the way.

An Akha mother wears a traditional silver headdress as she breastfeeds her young baby and appliques cloth that she will stitch into clothing. At night, she wears her heavy headdress, beads and jewelry to bed. Her babies cap is also decorated with silver coins and glass beads. The Akha, one of the most exquisitely dressed peoples in Asia, are one of several tribes that live in the mountains of China, Thailand, Laos and Burma. Traditionally they were opium growers and animists, believing in a myriad of spirits that share their mountainous world. This woman had recently moved her village from Burma into northern Thailand to escape persecution and seek new land for their fields when this photo was taken in 1978.
Life in the wild is rough, but for Lil Bear he learned early on how to tame the wilderness. Especially in the cold months, bear skin provides for comfortable lifestyle, but ready for battle at a moments notice. Began as a pencil sketch. Finished in Photoshop. Dedicated to my nephew Kyowa.

/ / Little Cleopatra is a drawing .. I’ve used a few different pencils, lead and coloured, as well as charcoal, and some coloured marker pens, along with black marker pen and black ink to colour in the large hair area. I’ve also coloured much of this digitally. /
I cropped this in picasa I also used saturation and contrast and pumped up the color in Kodak easy share.
