  • The Titanic smashed into the iceberg. / Screams broke out along with utter pandemonium. / Nevertheless, the men with their instruments in their tidy little suits, sat upright, swallowed hard, and with swift acceptance began playing the most heartfelt rendition of “Nearer My God To Thee” they’d ever played or known before… / / and then all was silent. / / sold: mounted print / / / / / /

  • These autumn colours and reflections were taken at Oakbank, Adelaide Hills, South Australia, Australia, in autumn (obviously). I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D on a tripod. This is an HDR shot. I used 3 shots merged together with Photomatix Pro. This was details enhanced.

  • Taken at Monsalvat in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. I couldn’t resist this approach as the old house begged for treatment and a dark and moody atmosphere. Hadn’t been here since I went there for a wedding as a young child, this approach to the image is sort of what I remember the place being like! HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom conversion to Antique Light and then birds added in Adobe Photoshop CS3. • Here’s another shot of Garibaldi Lake which is location in Garibaldi Provincial Park. This image is part of this series of HDR images I took when we did this 18 to 20 km hike (return). It’s one of the easiest hikes around and can be done summer like winter in about 7 to 8 hours return. When you get to the campground on a clear day, your rewards is this ridge of glaciers feeding this alpine lake. This one hiking trail links up to other which brings you over and around the ridge to the right onto another plateau which I’m hoping to do this summer, probably a 2 or 3 day hike. Canon Xt with a sigma 17 -35mm lens, 2.8 / HDR treatment in photomatix, and better viewed full screen Other images part of this series are : / / /

  • SOLD ! – Small Framed Print – Anonymous Buyer MUCH BETTER VIEWING EXPERIENCE VIEWED LARGER Thanks for dropping in your viewings, comments and if i’m lucky FAVOURITES are greatly appreciated. The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase* of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored ans still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue. • Black glass magic – I had gone on this shoot with a bad attitude, expecting the sky to be bland and the day to be a waste of time, and therefore I set the camera on large jpg so I wouldn’t waste too much computer space….As it turned out, I’ve managed to drag out some amazing results. This is another straight from the camera image, although I had to take it into PS to straighten the horizon…. Canon 5D Mk II, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 90seconds, ISO 50, Hoya NDX400, Singh Ray 3 stop reverse grad, Lee 0.9 ND grad, tripod, cable release, lots of guessing….I should point out the red sky is enhanced by the Singh Ray filter, which seems to put a colour cast across the ND area when used in conjunction with the Lee filter…. - / SEASCAPES / NEW ZEALAND / PEOPLE

Much Better Full Size! I love it when the titles I think up can work as double entendres. In this case this gorgeous empty barn … and the farm itself, I guess … do seem to be Finished … cloned off to the left rear is a housing development. It could also refer to the job of plowing and seeding … which, unless these are weeds (are they?) is Finished. But the title also refers to the fact that I’ve mucked around with this shot so much … and it has so many names in my computer (I tend to try to include what processes I used on a shot in its name) ... that last night when I did this version, the only thing I put to the end of the loooooong image name … was … “Finished.” And so, it stuck!! Original image taken just up the road from our house on April 6 of ‘09 in Montgomery County, Maryland, with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Photoshop cloning out of distractions and 2 duplicates created, Photomatix HDR from a single, hand-held image, dups at -/+2 eval, Photoshop for the addition of a texture, then into Paint for some blending.

  • Went on a little stroll around the city today to shoot a couple of laneways with Flamegirl for Laneway Magazine who requested some shots of this little spot. This is the same lane as shot in my Hosier Lane but up the other end facing the other way :D I’ve been using HDR sparingly lately but it helps to bring out so much character in these laneways that I simply can’t resist. This is also one of my first goes experimenting with the square format too! / Settings Canon 5D, 17-40mm f4 L USM. Canon 50D. / 10-20mm (at 10mm) HDR – 3 Bracketed Exposures (up to 30 seconds) blended manually in CS3. The longest exposure (2 stops overexposed) brought out the unusual streaks from the jetty lights. Click for larger preview. See also: /

  • This is my favorite photo! I always remember the awful smell of the shad factory on the way to shackelford banks when I was a kid. I have wanted to photograph this place for while now and the other day was the moment, everything was just perfect. I took this one with my 20D standing in a 16’ boat with no tripod….bracketed 3 frames and merged them in photomatix.

  • I have fallen in love with our National Parks here in the states after viewing Ken Burns series. I had no idea after just spending time in the Great Smokey National Park how special these parks are and the work that went into creating them. Thank you to all the people that went before and now who had the foresight to protect for us from ourselves to protect these wonders of such spiritual magnitude for us to enjoy. / Tennessee Leica V-Lux 1 HDR in Photomatix, 3 exposures PBS PREVIEWS: NATIONAL PARKS | Extended Preview | PBS
