  • The Rotunda was started in 1739, the year of Thomas Wentworth’s death and completed by his son William Wentworth in 1742. It is a round Ionick temple, based on the temple of Hercules at Tivoli, near Rome. / I remember visiting this in the grounds of Stainborough Castle, South Yorkshire with my Dad when i was about 9 or 10 years old and went back this weekend to find restoration has been started, as i remember it was in a bad state with no roof and overgrown with trees and no door so you could walk inside, as you can see it has had some much needed care and attention.

  • This is my second attempt at HDR photography. This was taken at Oakbank, in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, Australia, overlooking Appletree Cottage and the dam there. Late autumn and late afternoon. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera.

  • Another day at the office… (though I don’t work here, I couldn’t resist shooting it.) / / >featured< / / / /

  • Location: Elk Grove California / Technique: HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Time Lapse This was absolutely the hardest sequence of shots I have ever done,,,, Ever! Loved the way the trees lined up along this dirt road except that they were originally only on the right side. Did my HDR sequence at about 6:30pm just for the trees. Then I shot a 1260 second exposure with an ND Cokin Gradual filter later at about 10pm in complete darkness with only the moon for light. Featured in Group: / “Live Long & Dream” – Dec 10/2008 / . / . / .

  • A Stormy Autumn Colorado’s Longs Peak shrouded in Autumn thunderstorm clouds, stands towering above the quaking Aspen below. This scene was really something to see….the atmosphere was just to die for. The way the contrast played out with the yellow and gold Aspens against that dark sky was astonishing, the light was really changing fast so I had to be fairly quick while shooting this. Processed in HDR, let me know what ya all think! / —-John

  • The Aspen Stand This shot got some really good feedback over on FredMiranda.com so I thought that I would go ahead and share it with you all here as well. Photographed in Rocky Mountain National Park, this is the type of Fall Aspen shot I have wanted, but for some reason, whenever I have shot these kinds of shots in the past, they just never really have come out. Well, I think it did this time. It is almost to much of an iconic Colorado in Autumn photo, but I think one thing makes this one stand out from others. The lines. If you notice the black areas of the bark on the Aspen, that is actually where the Elk have eaten away at the bark. However, I like how it creates the line from left to right, going up higher as it goes to the right. I didn’t even notice this until I was processing the shot, and I suppose you can blame that on negative space. I suppose you can say that I am happy with the shot, I finally got the Autumn image I have always wanted. For those of you who don’t know how beautiful the Colorado Aspen’s are in Autumn, just ask Judy, she will be glad to tell ya! Let me know what ya think! / —-John

  • An infrared photo I took a while ago… but I just found it again on my computer. The title is from the song playing at the moment on iTunes….I’m lost for inspiration – “One Crowded Hour” by Augie March from their album “Moo, You Bloody Choir” – well worth a listen if you haven’t heard it.

  • HDR image created from 3 exposures. Taken at Dog Rocks near Geelong.

  • The River Foyle, Derry City, Northern Ireland. / I live in a large housing estate on a hill overlooking the city, and this is the view from the top of our street Just one of many reasons not to move house. During the troubles, the media favoured us with the label “republican enclave”. I didn’t do a survey of my neighbours’ political leanings, and I didn’t know any terrorists. Got caught in plenty of crossfire, though. Very scary!! / These ridiculous labels like the above, and “loyalist enclave” gave no idea whatsoever of the ordinary man and woman, the silent majority, (and I mean majority,) who lived in areas of high unemployment and low income; and who did their best to keep body and soul together in the midst of violence and fear. / I salute them. I salute the parents, especially. I salute my parents. http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/backingcolor:white/product:greeting-card/view:preview/2329535-2-a-view-of-the-river.jpg!

  • For views like this is one of the reasons why I became interested in photography, i just wanted to share this beauty that lies around, I like this one a lot. / This was shot not far from the village Chipping in the forest of Bowland AONB, this was shot from the lower fells near Burnslack looking over the beautiful countryside of the county of Lancashire England. This scene was shot with a NIKON D70s and 18-70mm lens /

  • The morning sun rising through the trees at Pyrmont Point Park. The rain clouds are also coming over from behind. / Sydney, NSW, Australia. See in Google Maps 3 Exp HDR (+2, 2 -2) / Canon 350D / 18-55mm EF-S / ISO 100 / Tripod Mounted / Photomatix Pro, PS CS4, Lightroom 2

  • Sutton Bank is a high vantage point at the very edge of the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors with extensive views over the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray. Because of its location and high elevation, Sutton Bank is popular with gliding and flying enthusiasts. Predominant landmarks include Whitestone Cliff and Roulston Scar, the former overlooking the mysterious (and reputedly bottomless !) Lake Gormire. Close nearby are the villages of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliff, and Kilburn (famous for the White Horse of Kilburn, and Robert Thompson – the “Mouseman” of Kilburn). / Sutton Bank is one of the most spectacular inland cliffs anywhere in Britain, and carries one of the most hair-raising main roads in the country. The near vertical drop from top to bottom is around 140 metres, and crosses at least two major geological boundaries. / The Sutton Bank National Park Centre is on the western edge of the fabulous North York Moors National Park – home to the largest expanse of heather moorland in England. It provides the perfect introduction to the National Park, its people, history and wildlife. Nikon D60 / HDR in Photomatix & pp in PS CS3 / Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm / 1/160 f/9.0 ISO200
