I actually took this shot while “You’re not the only one” by Ammonia was playing on my Ipod. Great song fitting image. “Cuts like pins and needles, miles and miles away. I took the shot through the Windscreen of my car. I really like the effect, it seems quite sad and intimidating.

This is another shot that I took on the 5th of May as part of the 24 hours of flickr. It is the shot of Australias own (or better my own, since it is in my backyard) Hills Hoist that was prominently featured at the 200 Olympics Opening Ceremony. / And now I have to learn that it was not even an Australian Invention: Taken from Wikipedia: / “The Hills Hoist is an Australian version of the rotary clothes line, the distinguishing feature of which is a crown and pinion winding mechanism invented by Adelaide based Lance Hill in 1945. This allows this clothesline to be lowered and raised. The rotary clothes line itself had been invented as early as 1855, diagrams of which were published in Scientific American that year. This style of clothes line was popularised in Australia by Lance Hill and is a common sight in Australian and New Zealand backyards. It is considered one of Australia’s most recognisable icons, and is used frequently by artists as a metaphor for suburbia in Australia. BEST VIEWED LARGER CURENT ENTRY IN MORNINGS AND EVENINGS CHALLENGE THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT THis shot was taken from Berrys Bay/ Balls Head Park on the north shore of Sydney taken on Wednesday 28th May 2008 around 5pm. As you can see the clouds herald what is to come, the buildings are lit by pre storm light combined with the last rays of day light. The storm that followed was quite severe with 868 recorded lightning strikes, just have to love the clouds and light. Equipment used Nikon D300 and Nikon 18 – 200mm lens. /

BEST VIEWED LARGER Avalon Beach is 3o kilometres from the Sydney CBD, it is part of the wonderful Northern Beaches in the area of PIttwater. FOr those visiting Sydney you can travel the Northern Beaches from Sydney by bus or car. Here you can enjoy surf beaches or the waters of Broken Bay. It’s my neighbourhood , cant think of a better place to watch the sunrise or set , a good chardonnay and fresh seafood. The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase* of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored ans still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue. MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER / 190 Comments,125 Favourites, 2956 Views / Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

I saw these reflections and ran for the camera. Sydney Harbour like a mill pond before the many vessels start their morning trips and disturbing it’s surface. The other factor is that look to the water surface that landscape photographers might know it’s like a oily look to the water that lends itself to wonderful reflective surface. It took many shots of Sydney Harbour this morning, if, and you should have seen the sunrise that followed . WAIT ! yes i have photos of that as well. It’s a area I call home , about 30 Kilometres from the Sydney CBD. Its a place of beaches,bays,inlets where you can enjoy boating,swimming, sitting on the shore watching the sun rise and fall.
