  • Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. I about froze my butt off getting this shot of Mummy Mountain, but I wanted something that really showed all the detail here….that represented what it’s all about being a nature photographer in Colorado…... / Thoughts welcomed! / HDR blending used to bring out more dramatic light and detail / John

  • A HDR image of Lake Dillon, CO from the East side at sunset. It had snowed all the week before and the lake was iced over, reflecting the sunset beautifully.

  • another attempt at HDR using a single RAW silver star, Canada

  • A little snow drift, where the wind has whistled through the gate, this is on the Strines in Derbyshire, it was really windy this day and so cold.

  • BETTER VIEWED LARGER Yes it does get cold out west, this shot was taken when the temperature was zero degrees celcius, and that was without windchill. Here the sunrise catches the landscape with recently snow cover. Morning light hits trees in the National Park that surrounds the Historic Gold Mining Village of Hill End 3 1/2 hours drive from Sydney For those visiting Sydney , free some time to travel west of Sydney, you will experience the wonders of National Parks and World Heritage areas, old gold mining towns, old towns . And vineyards and wonderous scenery that is the true Australian landscape. Hill End NSW / In October 1872 the Star of Hope Gold Mining Co. uncovered what was, at the time, the world’s largest specimen of reef gold. ‘Holtermann’s Nugget’, as it was known, weighed 286 kg and measured 150 cm by 66 cm with an average thickness of 10 cm. That week alone, over 700 kilograms of gold were carted / away from Hill End by the gold escort. In all the amount of gold extracted at Hill End was greater than any goldfield in NSW other than Canbelego / VIEW THE HILL END HDR SERIES / Hill End – HDR Series Series

  • A Conversation With the Clouds Captured at an elevation of 11,990 ft (3,655 m), standing atop Loveland Pass is like being able to touch heaven and the clouds. When I captured this, the slight hint of the scent of snow was in the air, and conditions up here can change literally by the second. It is right along the Continental Divide, and the views from up here are simply paradise! Processed in HDR and captured on my Minolta 5D using a Minolta 18-200 DT Lens and a Hoya Polarizer http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/5778657

  • Went hiking/snowshoeing this weekend as the weather was actually good for the first time in a while and we decided to hit up Garibaldi Lake Provincial park which is just about 20 km south of where we live here in Whistler. All to say, it’s a 9km hike up to the lake which is located at 1400meters. Return trip and total hike is about 20 km and took us 7 hours but what a sight. The snow level was only starting at around 1100 meters and once at the top, we only had about 40cm of snow, great thing we had the snowshoes / This shot was taken at the exit of the lake at the top of the hike with the rivers flowing out towards the water. / My 3rd attempt @ HDR, still trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t with this kind of photos. / Canon XT, Sigma 17-35mm , 3 images used to create this

  • Another shot part of this series taken at the top of the Garibaldi Provincial Park hiking trail (at the end of the campground) some 9 km from the valley. Took this a few weeks ago as the sun was starting to slowly come down and casting a few nice shadows on the frozen pond next to the lake. / This is another HDR image, 3 images used to create this image. / Shot with my Canon Xt, Sigma 17-35mm lens

  • Featured # 1 Artists of RedBubble February 20, 2009. I loved the look of the long, late afternoon shadows across the snow on this day. This old farmhouse on the knoll fascinates me every time I drive by … probably more so than any grand mansion ever could. It’s vacant now, has been for as long as I can remember … the torn-off porch was the last indignity. But somehow, love and laughter remain. It must have been a very happy home, once. Image taken on January 20, 2009 with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-200mm VR lens and the CP filter … along Route 97 near Glenwood, Maryland. Cloning of snow spots (from an earlier shoot) and levels and shadows & highlights were used in Photoshop, and the image was then put through Photomatix’s HDR process.

  • Hi all, been away for quite a while now, hope you are all well. I clicked on RB yesterday for the first time in ages and was pleased to see the high standard has still been maintained, this inspired me to try and make time for photography again, i had thousands of photos i had taken but not done anything with, so this morning before i went to work i got up and did this, i thought it was quite topical for the weather we are having here in England at the moment. It is a village scene from our local village Wentworth. Hope you like it. / Dave.

  • Local wind farm in Millhouse Green on a cold windy day just after the snow has started to thaw, just after taking this shot it started to rain, good timing!

As I climbed the hill the barn to my right caught my attention. After snapping some images of the barn, the resident came out to greet me. What a sweetheart!!!!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Shutter speed 1/640, aperture f/5.6, exp minus .33, iso 400. This image is a 20-80% blend of the original photo … with some distractions cloned away … and an hdr of the same image … created from the original, hand held, and two duplicates at +/- 2.5 eval.

  • The iconic Liathach rises above Loch Clair, on a beautiful Winter’s day. / Not a perfect reflection, but still a wonderful scene. The dead tree has stood there for as long as I remember, in just the right place for a great composition. / Liathach is one of the Torridon Hills, in the North West of Scotland. Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, tripod, polariser, f19, 1/20sec, iso 100, auto wb, single RAW file pseudo HDR in Photomatix, tweaked in PS CS3, and a final layer of Orton, reducing the opacity, to make the colours ‘pop’.
