Second Valley, South Australia. / About 90kms south of Adelaide. An attempt to display the varying layers and textures of the rocky foreground, the slow waves and the rolling hills in the background.
This is my second attempt at HDR photography. This was taken at Oakbank, in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, Australia, overlooking Appletree Cottage and the dam there. Late autumn and late afternoon. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera.
This image was selected as a finalist in the UK Digital Camera Magazine Photographer of the Year 2009. It is the same photo as the ‘Watch Your Step I’ rotated 90% CCW. The image is an high dynamic range image comprised of three merged images set at an AEB of 3 and processed in Photomatix Pro. Take with a Canon DSLR. The original photo is of a fuel storage tank in Port Botany.

This is a reworking of an earlier image that I posted here on RB I really love the original colour version as all through the image it has beautifl soft hues where usually the desert is very harsh. This morning was truly the most magical morning I had been ontop of the pound with dense heavy clouds sweeping over the landscape and the thick moist heavy air filling my lungs. I had been watchnig this tree for more than a year and I had never managed to soot a single image of it. This was mostly because of my previous camera a Canon 400d with its crop sensor didn’t offer enough field of view even with a 17mm lens on the front. With both mt new Canon 5D MKII with its full frame sensor and the perfect weather conditions I was able to fit all the detail I wanted in both the range and the tree into a single frame. I hope that you like it! This feast for the senses was found, at the lake, at Alfred Nicholas Gardens, in the Dandenongs, in Victoria, in autumn this year. This HDR shot is 3 shots merged together with Photomatix Pro using tone mapping and details enhancer. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and tripod, too.

Crystal Caves, Bermuda Underground fresh water caves in Bermuda. The temperture above ground was well above 30 Celsius, while the temperature in caves was probably only 15. The water was verrry cold to swim in. “You can go to heaven if you want. I’d rather stay in Bermuda.” – Mark Twain

BEST VIEWED LARGER / Thanks for dropping in the favouritings, Comments and Views are greatly appreciated Narrabeen Lakes is a popular paddling spot on the Northern Beaches of / Sydney. The surrounding hills and trees make it quite sheltered. The fact that / it is right next to one of the world’s best surf beaches is an added bonus North Narrabeen lies on the northern shores of Narrabeen lagoon, bounded by Warriewood to the north, Elanora Heights to the west and extends east to the ocean at Turrimetta Beach. Narrabeen is opposite on the southern shore of the lagoon. The first land grants were made to John Lees, 40 acres, Philip Schaffer, 50 acres, and James Wheeler, 80 acres, along the south bank of Mullet Creek. Alex Macdonald was granted 80 acres at the beach in 1815 and west of this land JT Collins had 93.5 acres by 1857. During the nineteenth century travellers had to ford the lake until 1880 when the first bridge opened. A second bridge at the mouth of the lagoon in Ocean Street was built in 1925. With the extension of the tram to Narrabeen in 1913 providing easier transport, the whole area around the lake became popular for holidays and camping. A large camping ground became established on the north shore of the lagoon. In 1946 the Wakehurst Parkway was opened to North Narrabeen connecting the whole Pittwater area directly to Frenchs Forest and Seaforth. The origins of the name Narrabeen are uncertain, possibilities are: Narrabin, a native plant growing near the lake entrance; Narrabine, an Aborigine girl; narrow beans eaten by early explorers. James Meehan mentions Narrowbang lagoon in his survey in 1815. / This shot was taken as the sun sets over the lakes, I am not sure what type of clouds these are but they always remind me of Angels Wings. Guess what decision won? Newport Beah is one of the many beaches, north of the city within a short drive. Everyone goes to Bondi that is crowded. Why not head north to pristine beaches, no crowds, and watch the sun rise and set. A good seafood meal, some chilled chardonnay or a beer.
