Honey-coloured Montacute House is one of the glories of late Elizabethan architecture. Offered ‘for scrap’ in 1931, Montacute was rescued for the National Trust as one of its first great houses. It has been filled with furniture, fine tapestries and a collection of Tudor and Jacobean portraits on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. Montacute was built in the last years of the 16th-century by Sir Edward Phelips, as a symbol of his rising career. HDR – 3 shots merged using Photomatix Nikon D90 – Nikkor 18-105mm All I could think about while looking at this photo was… ‘where’s my son’s skateboard’... hehehe

Valle Crucis Abbey is in North East Wales, near Llangollen. The abbey was founded in a remote location particularly suitable for the Cistercian order. Valle Crucis was founded in 1201 but some rebuilding of the church was necessary after a mid 13th century fire. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII, Valle Crucis gradually fell into decay. Fortunately, enough of the fabric remains to remind us of the spiritual aspirations of our forebears. Method: Handheld, 1 RAW file, converted to give 7 different exposures. I then generated and tone mapped in Photomatix.
