Hazy
by David TaylorI spent a great weekend in the English Lake District last week. The weather was perfect…for non-photographers! However, the haze made the hills of the Borrowdale valley look like a series of flat cardboard cutouts, which was visually really rather interesting.

Lac du Bonnet. A lake in Manitoba. There a town on the shore of this lake by the same name. The air was kinda hazy today, most likely cause by forest fires some where near by. MY BUBBLESITE

Low cloud veiling the distant mountains in the French Pyrenees on a steamingly hot day. This started out as a pleasant but uninspiring shot, blue sky, green foreground – I didn’t think I could do anything much with it. But when I tried ‘antique’ setting, desaturated the colour and fiddled with the contrast, it all seemed to come together. Done in iphoto. I’m just embarking on the Photoshop journey, so may try another variation when I’ve got to grips with it! !

Sunset on the smooth and calm waters of the St-Lawrence river, shot from the south shore, in Candiac, Quebec. I shot at f/8, to emphasize the misty quality of the background. Post-processing was limited to a little rotation and very slight levels adjustments. I also cloned out a speckle of dust that must have been stuck to my lens. Focal length 55mm / ISO-100 / Aperture f/8 / Shutter 1/5 sec. Nikon D60 / AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR Finished in 10th position of Top 10 in the Avatar Competition II of the Simple by Design group on January 11, 2009
