…How do ideas come? What a question! If they come of their own accord, they are apt to arrive at the most unexpected time and place. For the most part the place is out of doors, for up in this northern wilderness when nature puts on a show it is an inspiring one. There seem to be magic days once in a while, with some rare quality of light that hold a body spellbound: In sub-zero weather there will be a burst of unbelievable color when the mountain turns a deep purple, a thing it refuses to do in summer. Then comes the hard part: how to plan a picture so as to give to others what has happened to you. To render in paint an experience, to suggest the sense of light and color, air and space, there is no such thing as sitting down outside and trying to make a “portrait” of it. It lasts for only a minute, for one thing, and it isn’t an inspiration that can be copied on the spot…. / - Maxfield Parrish Posterlounge Store – Portfolio/Blog – deviantART Shop / “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

It was another beautiful summer morning with some haze a few days ago which made me go out on my bike early. I am glad I did push myself up and out.! The forests here near Hilversum are such a good cycling area! Near Laage Vuursche, 24 July 2008, 6.45 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 150 mm / F 8, 1/25, ISO 200 Featured in “Your Magic Place”.
What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.
After your wonderful response to my “Veil of morning light” once again a shot from the hazy morning two days ago. The sunbeams are so strong on this picture that you have to look rather closely to see the winding course of the cycling path. It is the path from Hilversum to the paradisical forests near Laage Vuursche. You still have to cross a railway line and a motorway (yes, we have them too, though you never see them on my shots!), and then you are in foresty dreamland. But this bit of the path is already a lovely start, is it not? Near Hilversum, 7th October 2008, 933 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 34 mm / F 4, 1/25, ISO 400
Second in a series of dandelion seeds. Enjoy!
The light on that November day had a special quality to it, due to the wonderful morning haze. This normally is just a little path for cyclists and horseriders here near Hilversum, with nothing special about it. But the veil of light changed it into an enchanted path, full on unknown mysteries. Would there perhaps be some fairy bringing happiness and health? Hilversum, 3rd November 2007, 10.31 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 170 mm / F 14, 1/60, ISO 500
I wonder what it would have been like in the forest this morning … Unfortunately I did not manage to go. So I treat you on an older shot from December, taken on a wonderful morning in December which had that enchanting mixture of haze and bright sunshine.
