  • Lava rock off the South coast of Maui with the light of the setting sun illuminating the clouds and rocks alike as the incoming tides surge past the rocks.

  • This dreamy vision of fragrant Frangipani brings back to me the heavenly colors and scents of this alluring tropical flower which I was blessed to enjoy today in my friend’s garden. I would like to dedicate this image to everyone here at RedBubble and to send you all a virtual bouquet of plumeria. This has to be the best photo site available to anyone. The people are super friendly and supportive and the talent represented here is remarkable. The products which are shipped all over the world are of superior quality, with amazing attention to detail. I am privileged and blessed to be part of such a beautiful endeavor. My sincerest thanks to all!

  • Akaka Falls, Hawaii. Waterfall in Northern Hawaii in tropical rainforest. Everything was wet and moist. I got this shot in before it started raining again. / / Click on the buy/preview button to see the many RedBubble print options for this photo.

  • Kalani Deep is an accumulative effort of lifelong studies of one of the world’s most recognizable waves. My intent was to show an intimate view of a wave that has been captured perhaps the most-out of all perfect waves. Pipeline is paramount. / This view is a combination of what one would see in a magazine (photographers are getting closer to the action than ever) and what its like to actually surf the place. I have been among the few that have been able to exit these waves unscathed. Well if you call a torn ligament to orthroscopic surgery unscathed. The reef is depicted as uneven and as unpredictable. The wave is experts only with a heirarchy for surfers as well as photgraphers. The best surfers out get preferential rights to the best waves. Again, color and form was my goal for this piece.

  • This photo was taken on my first trip to Hawaii

  • Came across a young Hawaiian Green Sea turtle while cave diving. Canon 20D / SPL water housing

  • “Love Rests on No Foundation ~ It is an endless ocean, with no beginning or end. Imagine, a suspended ocean, riding on a cushion of ancient secrets. All souls have drowned in it, and now dwell there. One drop of that ocean is hope, and the rest is fear.” ~ Quatrains of Rumi Plumeria Blossom on Lava Rocks / Hamoa Beach Maui Hawai`i Copyright © Sharon Mau / All Rights Reserved Featured in Natural Colour and Light group 25 December 2008 Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi This lovely Plumeria blossom floated from the tree which arches overhead as I was walking down the stone steps to the luxurious black sand beach of Hamoa, one of my favourite beaches on Maui. I was captivated with the beauty of it resting softly on the lichen blanketed lava rock and the contrasts of soft sensual beauty with the rough textures of the hardened magma. Of course I instantly stopped and photographed it. It is one of my favourites and I am happy you enjoy it

  • The Old Salt Barn on Ka’ono’ulu Ranch is fixin’ to fall down any day now, the owner told me. And so I made this old building my priority. Shooting HDR style, was able to capture the full glory of the UpCountry Maui sunset.

  • “Celebrate Life” is the loose translation of my photo. So CELEBRATE!

  • A break in the storm at sunset made for a dramatic photo. – Princeville Palms…looking over Hanalei Bay towards Bali Hai on the island of Kauai – Aug. 2008 Nikon D200, Nikkor 18-200 VR lens

Such a beautiful place, it is good to come and visit in the morning for the light over the water is magical. Aqua, turquise, deep blue with white waves crashing on the shore. Once you have been here, you will never forget this perfect little bay that has been nicknamed the “Wedding Beach.”. / It is simply sublime…

  • The mighty Humpback Whales are making their way back to Maui, for the birthing and mating season. The swim from Alaska, where they have been feeding for the past 8 months. I made this image last year, and just dug it up from the depths of a long-lost hard drive. It is time to get the kayak out again, for more excitement with my big buddies. The nearshore waters of Maui County are a national marine sanctuary.

  • The northwest point on the island of Oahu, Hawai’i is Ka’ena Point. This was photographed after some torrential rains which resulted in little creeks forming and entering the ocean. • 18×24 Watercolor and chalk pastel on cold-press watercolor paper. Living in Hawaii brings one close with many beautiful creatures. Since my first encounter with sea turtles at the age of 16 I have felt an affinity with sea turtles. Swimming with them is like the equivalent of resting with a herd of deer out in the wild, inches away. / FEATURED in the group: Works On Paper / /

  • Self-portrait, Hawai’i – 2004 Very strange time in my life – this is right after the back injury – i was confined to this bed, for the most part – my days were spent writing and taking self-portraits. My apartment looked like a mental ward, with its cinderblock walls. / I felt as though i were in a mental-ward. When i first posted this on beta Flickr, that was the comment i got most often. / “So, like, are you taking these photos in a psych-ward?”
