  • Akaka Falls, Hawaii. Waterfall in Northern Hawaii in tropical rainforest. Everything was wet and moist. I got this shot in before it started raining again. / / Click on the buy/preview button to see the many RedBubble print options for this photo.

  • A beautiful wave crashes into the shores of Hawaii. This was an excellent day for shooting just empty waves and I managed to get quite a few dramatic looking shots, this one was my favorite from this day.

  • Came across a young Hawaiian Green Sea turtle while cave diving. Canon 20D / SPL water housing

  • As I crawled from my tent with blurred eyes, I could see that the sun was going to rise perfectly behind Alau Island. This image was unplanned, yet a perfectly wonderful stroke of luck.

  • Okay, so there I was in my little kayak slowly cruising near the Pali (cliffs) of Maui, when out out the shallow water came the biggest fish I have ever seen! I must have pee’d in my pants. My camera was in my hands already, but the auto-focus was jumping all over the place. It was sort of a slow-motion nightmare, except that it was really cool after I realized that this hummer wasn’t actually going to land in my teeny little boat. I managed to get one photo. Whew.

  • Here on Maui, we have a neighbor who decided to build a fence out of old surfboards. Well, now there are 600+ surfboards surrounding the property and the number grows daily as folks simply deposit their old hardware onto the property without giving it a second thought. I took this from the road using my Fujifilm 6×17 film camera (for sale now!) This fence has recently made international news and is a “Mecca” for all tourists to photograph.

  • Infrared image captured using a Hoya IR filter.

  • It is a rare occasion when there is no wind blowing the palms, and there are enough clouds over the ocean to create a dramatic sunset at this location. I spent a week’s worth of evenings in this area before the conditions set up perfectly. Technically this is a series of 5 long exposures layered. I was using a 10mm lens on my little Canon XTi. It worked. This beach is in an area where there will soon be plenty of new construction, sadly. The “old” Maui is slipping away, and it breaks my heart. I hope images like this will preserve the pristine flavor for future generations.

  • During this past week, unimaginable waves came crashing into the north shores of the Hawaiian islands. The surf was windy, and messy, and disorganized—not ridable for the great watermen of Hawaii. I happened to be in Sunset Beach, Oahu during the storm, and the sun only peeked through the clouds a couple of times, briefly. I was waiting. Here is my image.
