  • A large formation of Lava rock off the coast of Kihei on Maui, Hawaii turned into a boiling sinking cauldron by the rising tides flowing in from above and below. The water level on this cauldron would rise and fall as much as 6 feet with the ebb and flow of the waves. I was fascinated by this marvel of nature and creation.

  • The setting sun adds color to slice of beach off the South coast of Maui near Lahaina. The ebb flow of the rising tides evident in the foreground where the water is ebbing and middle where a waves begins to curl as it comes ashore

  • Nakalele Blowhole truly a miracle of nature. A shelf of lava rock on the north shore of Maui eroded by the punishing sea until the waves created a vent that spews like a geyser off and on and when the llight of late afternoon hits the spray the miracle of rainbow color becomes apparent.

  • A coastal cauldron overflowing with the ssun setting on the Mountains of West Maui in the distance

  • Lava rock off the South coast of Maui with the light of the setting sun illuminating the clouds and rocks alike as the incoming tides surge past the rocks.

  • A golden beach near Lahaina glowing in the light of the setting sun as a gnarled Banyan Tree appears to reach for drink in the rising tide.

  • Akaka Falls, Hawaii. Waterfall in Northern Hawaii in tropical rainforest. Everything was wet and moist. I got this shot in before it started raining again. / / Click on the buy/preview button to see the many RedBubble print options for this photo.

  • Mauna Kea, 14000 ft up, after three nights of snow. By the way, this was taken out the window of a moving car. I wasn’t driving, I promise!!! Snow means plenty of light: ISO 400, f/16, 1/2500 sec! See other works from this expedition: Altitude Summit

  • There is nothing like the sunsets in Hawaii. They are truely something to behold. Unlike in the mountains, where usually only part of the sky shows the sunset colors, in Hawaii the entire sky glows with intense color. Maui, Hawaii. All content & images are © Nolan Nitschke. • A color sunset as the tides roll in near Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.

  • The Old Salt Barn on Ka’ono’ulu Ranch is fixin’ to fall down any day now, the owner told me. And so I made this old building my priority. Shooting HDR style, was able to capture the full glory of the UpCountry Maui sunset.

  • Infrared image captured using a Hoya IR filter.

  • A beach on the North Shore of Hawai’i. The weather has been unusually rainy on the island of Oahu, Hawai’i. I managed to catch some good clouds in between storms at a place called Rockpiles. December 13, 2008 Canon 1 Ds Mark II 17 mm / 3.2 second shutter speed / f/8 / ISO 100

  • The landscape of this side of the island always had a mystical look to me. It was if the earth had just been created. This is near Waimanalo, Hawaii. /

  • A clearing storm just before sunset on the Napali Coast, captured from Kalalau Lookout in Kokee State Forest on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. For me, the incredible light and views that can be seen at different times of the day from this vantage point are second to none in all of Hawaii. The only thing you need to do is be patient when you arrive, as this area is frequently fogged in and rainy. As an example, I waited almost 2 hours before the sky broke and I was able to capture this shot. For me it was worth the wait ! And bitter was the darkness that befell the bloomless rose. Only after this earth has been bathed in its holy baptism / shall it become the glorious garden it was truly meant to be.” excerpts from The Prophet’s Candle by Daniel Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / This is a composite of two images taken at the same coastal location on Ke’anae Peninsula at the same time stitched together with Smoky City Design – The Panorama Factory software. / Shooting Date/Time 16 April 2007 20:32:35 / Flash Off Shutter Speed 1/250 Aperture10.0 ISO 400 / Lens EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
