On Saturday, April 12, 2008 my band, Under Pressure will be playing at a benefit dance for a local man who has contracted a rare lung disease, and will likely not be able to return to work. Earlier in the day there will a Chinese auction and a silent auction. Both Darlene and myself have donated a print each of the organizer’s choosing. Here are the two images that they chose to put up for auction. / / /

MANY BLESSING AND THANK YOU TO THE ABSTRACT DIGITAL ART AND WRITING GROUP FOR FEATURING MY ARTWORK & POETRY “HAUNTING MEMORIES ” . I AM SO VERY HONORED ! / HAUNTING MEMORIES / Haunting Memories As I sat by my window one night, / the moons rays streaming in so bright. / My thoughts went back to other years, / and my eyes began to fill with tears. / The haunting memories of a life gone wrong, / remembering the fears I had so strong. / Back then I did pray for change, / but felt it was so very far out of range. / I felt abandoned, lost and all alone, / did not think I could ever atone. / I had hit a bottom so dark and grey, / I could not find a reason to stay. / Then in a moment of utter despair , / I called His name and He was there. / In a burst of transcending spiritual light , / God reached out and held me tight. / Soothed my hurt and dried my tears, / showed me the way to face my fears. / So I then sank on bended knee, / and asked God first for forgiveness you see. / Then as days passed by and I trusted Him, / I found new joy growing deep within. / My life changed that hot June night, / when I was so full of fear and fight. / Today God is always by my side , / and never again will I need to hide Poetry By: Madeline M. For anyone who is following the haunting that is going on in my house, this here is an update of more activity. For anyone scratching their heads and saying, “haunted house? what?”, check out my first post Last Night I Talked to a Ghost [a.k.a. My Widget is Haunted!]. Well, about a month ago, one of my family members (who prefers to remain nameless) went through something similar to what I had previously been through. This family member was awoken in the middle of the night because they thought someone had their arm around them, but when they woke up there was no one there. It was as if an arm was wrapped around them and they swore up and down that it was caressing them. The entire bedroom was checked for intruders but no one was ever found. A few weeks later, my partner and I were watching a television show with my brother and we heard a door slam shut from upstairs in my younger brother’s room. He was not home at the time and no one was awake upstairs. When we went up to investigate, the door to his room was slightly ajar, and he ALWAYS keeps his door closed at all times. We all got freaked out and went back downstairs. Later that night, my partner and I were in our room watching the show Paranormal State. We had Moxy’d (sort of like Tivo) several episodes. I was on the computer, surfing Red Bubble, when I felt a cold chill all around me, so I got into bed. During one of the episodes, I felt something brush by my feet, which were hanging over the edge of the bed. I started to cry. My partner thought I was crying because the show was so scary. But, he knows me better than that and asked me what was wrong. I told him that nothing was wrong. During the last one we were watching, which was a very freaky episode about a house with a demon in it, I told my partner to change the channel because something just felt wrong in the room. As soon as I said that, I felt as if a hand had come down on my right foot and was resting there, squeezing down on my foot. Tears literally poured from my eyes as I yanked my feet up. My partner changed the channel, but the TV screen scrambled. He sat up and told me to tell him what had happened because he knew I was never afraid of TV or movies. When I told him what had happened, he grabbed my hand and said we should go downstairs and have a glass of water. When we came back to the room, the TV was working just fine. On a side note: I have several Rosaries and Scapulars (from my Catholic upbringing) hanging in my room. Before leaving the room, I noticed that one of my Scapulars was hanging awkwardly from where it had been previously hung. I pointed it out to my partner and he said that we had probably bumped into it or something. The next day, as I passed by the place where the Scapular was hung, it was gone…missing. My partner found it later that day at the bottom of a clothing hamper. We have no idea how it could have gotten there or who put it there or why it was at the bottom of a hamper when we had just seen it hanging up the night before. Maybe it was just a coincidence. But I think it was the spirits. And, just the other day, we were all about to have breakfast, when all of a sudden we heard a radio turn on. We all looked at each other and then got up to investigate. We found the cat lying next to my brother’s radio boom box, which was turned on and playing music. The cat was asleep with his head against the speaker. Now, this radio is not easy to turn on—it is actually very complicated, so I doubt Milo Kittlesworth was the responsible party. Now, as I have said before, I have no reason to lie and I concede that it all may just be coincidence. However, too much has happened to make me believe that it is not the work of the super natural. I welcome any and all opinions. :)

I wish to congratulate Lily for her fantastic work! I am proud to be associated to its success.

  • This just floated by and scared the bejebbers out of me. Then promptly stuck itself to my new canvas. It came all the way from the room down the hall. I’m just having a cuppa tea and a lie down.

Many of you might remember this collaboration work with Lily Munroe , who wrote a marvelous story , inspired by my image Anna’s Eternal Sorrow . / Lily has kindly offered to submit our work (both story and image) to her local newspaper in Australia for publication. It worked! The Springbrook Voices has accepted to publish the collaboration work in two chapters. The first part was recently published in the March 09 to May 09 edition, and the second part will appear in the next one, in May. Many thanks to Lily for taking care of everything, and kindly sending me a copy! This is me below, dressed as Anna, which in fact is my wedding dress (yesssss, it still fits me!), and holding my copy of the newspaper in order to show the published story. Made a composite image out of it.

  • 3, 2, 1 ... we have lift off.

For the last couple of months I’ve been focused on a project very close to my heart. Can you guess? Yes, yes, it was publishing my first book, Haunting Emma. Sunday 29 March was the day for me to officially release my story to the world and I chose to do this at the local Blacksmith Forge Book Barn (a bookshop seemed to be a logical place). / / At first I thought I wouldn’t be able to share this special event with many bubblers because coincidentally I had chosen the same weekend as the Melbourne Writers Retreat. So imagine my surprise if you will when they decided to move from east to west and hold their retreat in Bacchus Marsh! / / Invitations were also mailed out to friends, family and local people I have come to know quite well. And an article in the local paper in the lead up also pimped the event, plus some strategic facebooking (well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it). / / The weekend came at me like Monty Python’s Sir Lancelot – it seemed like such a long way away for ages, then in a flash it was here slashing and cutting! At about 11am on Saturday morning I got a phone call from Bellmusker, asking if it was walking distance from the station to the Bacchus Hill Winery where we’d arranged to meet and have lunch. (Only if you’d packed a lunch and camping provisions, I thought) and promptly ran out to the crud mobile, removed a couple of bags of debris, crumbs and the booster seat, so I could give them a lift. There, I caught up with my friends Bell and LisaG, met Holly and James for the first time, and a hey do ho to Lucky Vege, Michael, and Jo O’B. Two car loads then headed off to the winery, where, awaiting us were Adgray (my house guest for the weekend), Amanda Witt, the enigmatic Fleece, and PJ Ryan. / At lunch, awaiting our yummy woodfire pizzas etc are (CAPTION: START WITH JO and working counter clockwise …) Jo O’Brien and James, looking down towards Adgray, then up to Holly, Lucky and Michael, PJ pointing to that facial feature which she says remains fingerless, then below PJ again deep in conversation with LisaG, back up to LisaG again, over to Bell and David Wenha… no no no, Fleece, then down to Amanda who was with me on the “what tha” scale … and I’m the one whose Eye View you are borrowing. Oh yeah, and that’s the delectable Autumn pizza I stole from Jo and James. Sorry about that guys. The afternoon was warm with gentle breezes, the view nice, the wine flowed, and the company convivial. I left early to rescue my mum from babysitting my daughter and vowed to catch up again at dinner. In the meantime, Addy dropped Amanda off at her motel, then zipped around to settle at lodgings in the half-star motel at Darley (i.e. my place). Dinner was at the Royal (well, it’s not called that any more but I’m a local and can’t remember the name they replaced the 100 year old title with). Bernadette joined us for dinner; a lovely lady! Rather nice meal, and I’m still awaiting Michael’s (or was it James’) photos of the interesting light fittings. After dinner, reconvening at the bubblers’ B&B we settled for a few interesting rounds of a ‘word game’ then a rather violent game of pictionary. A relatively early night was called on account of the late night some had on Friday!!!!! :o) SUNDAY / It really is never too far away! / It was a diasporic Sunday morning by most accounts. Then we all met at 70 Stamford Hill, on the veranda, for some workshoppish writing games. Next thing I know it’s 3.45 and I’m supposed to be blowing up balloons and organising babysitters. I have to say that once the fugue well and truly hit me, everyone rallied to get everything done. It was quite weird and surreal and wonderful. At the appointed hour (or half hour) the Forge Bookshop filled with people. There were about 50 in all and at this point I wondered if perhaps I should have written a speech. Then I thought, I wonder if I should have asked someone to MC. Then I thought, I wonder if anyone will notice me sneaking off out the back door. However, my friend Marjorie Goodchild (a goodhearted person with an apt name), stood to the fore and introduced me to the crowd. As much as I tried, my lips were numb and it was difficult to project my voice, however some (I’ve heard) use this as a tactic to make people listen and even down the back they heard every third word, so that was good. I know I forgot thank yous!!! I know this and if you feel I should have thanked you, I am truly sorry. While the words may not have been said, they are in my heart. I explained to the crowd that this really is a life-long dream for me; seeing my name on the spine of a book is one of the three great things I have aspired to in my life and there it was … such a strange feeling to reach that summit. I also told everyone, as much for the benefit of locals as it was for bubblers, that it was all made possible because of Redbubble on a number of levels; for helping me to get back in touch with the thing I MUST do, write fiction! Without writing fiction, I feel rather like a shadow. Without my fiction being read, the real me shimmers for awhile and is in danger of reverting to that shadow. On another level, I was in the right place at the right time when Redbubble said they want to test fiction books as a product!!!! This, to me, was like winning Tattslotto. For me to be in the right place at the right time was like watching those six little balls come out baring my numbers!!!!! And so I gave RB and Peter Styles my heartfelt thanks for helping my dream become this reality. While the launch itself was a huge highlight in my life, I have to say an enormous part of the success of the afternoon must go to Soxy Fleming. Sox came up for the launch and performed excerpts from Chapter 2. Sox, everyone loved your performance. At best I had hoped that someone would do a reading for me. And your delivery was way up and beyond my expectations. There is something so strange about hearing someone do this with your own work; it seems to help you distance yourself from it and hear it for the very first time. Thank you Soxy and Fleur for sharing my day in such a valued way. Okay, the question on everybody’s lips. How many books have I sold so far. Well, at the launch, 30 were duly purchased and signed by the author and since then, a further 10. It’s not a huge number (hey, it’s not Harry Potter, but perhaps … no, well … you just never know). I’m am really happy with that number since Emma has only been available for a few days. Already I have received lovely messages from people saying they could not put it down (music to my ears) and asking when the next one will be coming out (oh boyo … better get cracking, only done three chapters so far). Again everyone, thank you for your huge support. To everyone who commented on Emma during her formative serialisation on Redbubble in 2007, thank you. To everyone who has hassled, nagged and berated me when the pace fell off … thank you. And to those of you who showed great belief in both me and in my story telling, pushing me to show a little courage and to take this step, THANK YOU. Now, about the sequel, well …. sorry, no photos of the actual launch as I was otherwise engaged. I’m hoping some may emerge at some stage

Okay, confession up front. This is not so much about critics as it is about what the readers are saying about Haunting Emma. My ego is so malleable, and not everything written is good but most has been just wonderful. So I thought I’d present some things said so far right here. Indulge me. / :o) Allison said: / well I took your book with me on my holiday and read it on my travels. I am not a reader at all but I was determined to read it, I can tell you I was so dissapointed when I finally put it down. Not that it was bad but that it ended. I absolutely loved it Anne, it was intriguing, confusing, consuming and I never wanted to put it down. I made myself read it slowly on our trip a few chapters at a time ‘cause I knew while reading it that I didn’t want it to end. Are your other books similar? ‘cause I want more, I think I will start reading again. Well done what a great masterpiece, Volume 2 ??? Roy said: / So Vinny is a clever little bugger, quick thinking too, I was very impressed by his waiter routine! Natasha said: / Well I finished it…and all I can say is BRILLIANT and I cant wait for more…no pressure or anything I know that creative spurts come when they are good and ready and the more we push the less likely they are to come. Alyssa said (and I appreciate the honesty) ... / I finished Emma yesterday and loved it! Love the twists and the spectra issues … feel you had too many voices helping you in it! [?] in the way it was written. Possibly more so that it was a work that was “helped” in the bubble and not just your own continuous work? Cathie said: / The detail with which you told the snippets that you gave us does make me think that there are more than “back stories” happening in your brain! Danny said: / I can see this being telecast on the ABC as one of those whimsical dramas. / Do you know any agents? Jhanine said: / Well I got it home, started reading and, I am happy to report, couldn’t put it down! I finished the book by 9.15 this morning and it was truly wonderful! ... You know this means I am ready for another Anne van Alkemade installment (but no pressure ;0)! )Thank you for sharing your creative and beautiful mind with all of us through “Haunting Emma”. You should be extremely proud! And I say: / Thank you to everyone who has read my book and given me such high praise. It really is a wonderful experience to hear that I am able to take other people on the journey that I saw in my mind’s eye.

  • MY LIGHT ON THE SPECTRE THAT IS HAUNTING REDBUBBLE.

I did not come on to RB much over the weekend, nor yesterday as I was doing non-PC stuff but for the few brief moments I did, I sensed something was amiss. Call me paranoid, or delusional, but even on an internet website, there are certain vibes that are as obvious as dogs’ balls. This place, energetically and psychically has felt, to me, like a graveyard these past few days but without the inherent peace. There has been a wave of chill, empty and uninhabited. I have always been one to avoid the dramas and bickering that can go on on these types of sites and will usually not even get myself up to speed on the latest debates. Admitting to myself however that I am, in some way, a part of this “community” I tried to educate myself about what’s happening with this issue about the closure of a bubbler’s account due to “inappropriateness”. I must say that I am unfamiliar with the work of both people involved and only have the “facts” to go by which I read in someone’s journal. Anything in life is potentially something to learn from, to perceive Power and how it plays out. There is, with all human dramas, a deeper cause, something that exists beyond appearances. All the time, we react to appearances, to what is on the surface. For instance; someone gets up at 6am and steps on a nail when they get out of bed. They then drive to the doctor to get a stitch and they get a speeding ticket. Then they go to work and find out they have been demoted. Dejected, they go downstairs to the cafeteria and someone bumps into them and they spill their coffee. Any other day, they would laugh it off. This day however, they launch a vitriolic no-holes-barred assault on this person and condemn them for every sin they have ever committed. To the person on the end of the assult, all they have is this isolated “Now” moment, it just appears, unsolicited, stark and direct. In that isolated “Now” moment, it is not apparent the history, the cause and effect that has led the other person to this moment. Here is where we enter a great paradoxical difficulty, for the person on the end of the barrage is receiving something out of proportion with the event, and with their own action. In other words, getting something that may be unwarranted in some way. Yet from the other person’s perspective, there day has become a whirlpool of circumstance, where the momentum gets progressively stronger to the point where things have become unstoppable. The words spoken, and the energy behind them, seem to have an existence of their own that extends beyond the speaker or the doer. In this way, how could we rightly say that something is unwarranted, since we are dealing now with something more like an Elemental force? Do we blame the sun for shining ot the wind for blowing? It is futile to try and punish the sun or the wind, yet that is exactly what we try to do with humans. It seems, in this situation, there must ultimately be a winner and a loser and in our current case we are assuming the winner is the one whose membership is intact. From what I have seen, the vast majority of reactions on here are in sympathy for the “loser”, an outrage at the injustice. RB is usually a very free place where people can use colourful language, express emotions even the dark ones and can interact with other souls on a conceptual, word-based level. Yet there is also a level we interact beyond words, we are connected in subtle ways also, energetically. The same magnetic attraction-repulsion laws apply here as they do in physical reality and we may be able to learn from them in a similar way. I do not have a solution, not even an opinion. This is not because I am a fence sitter, but because in this type of scenario it is futile to “take sides”. All I can say is, RB has highlighted a problem that exists across the board in human society and it is not only connected to authority (daddy scolding me for stepping out of line by taking away my membership) but it also is how we split “Now” into fragments, when actually Now is one long constant moment (which paradoxically is also quite short). When you were born, it was Now. When you die, it will be Now. And where you find yourself this very moment is not some different, exotic moment but rather it is the exact same moment as when you were born and when you will die. You will not die “over there” in some forgotten niche of consciousness that is “way off in the distance” and so can be forgotten about or pushed aside. This is the great Illusion that puts us in a trance and allows us to be so easily controlled. A divided house is easy prey. Only seeing beyond this illusion grants us freedom and soverignty, and it only comes about if you are sincerely prepared to unlearn what you have been taught, whatever the cost. In truth, the moment you die will be a moment very much the same as this one you are living right now. The fear of death is not a natural condition, it has been inseminated into humans since “civilisation” (slavery) was founded. Someone who is afraid of dying will split all his Now moments up into discrete categories; now I am eating chocolate cake, now I am fighting my brother, now I am voting for Labour, now I am watching telly, now I am studying for my biology exam, now I am hating Sylvia, now I am loving Max, now I am seeking pleasure, now I am avoiding pain…. and somewhere, way off, though I will pretend it is on a different plane… now I am dying. The result of this segmentation of ourself is extremely tragic, though not many see the full extent of its effects. For every time we identify with something different and say, for instance “I am a feminist” or “I like girls” or “I get sad when I watch the news”, we set up in ourselves a resistance to the rest of ourselves. But the shocking part is that each time we “identify” we do not just change our mood like changing gears in our car. Instead each “identity” is a complete being state, right down to the anatomical level. You look in the mirror when you are depressed and then on another day when you are happy, you will see in your body the way you hold tension and breath have produced two entirely different people Where is the constant “I” that we are told we are? It is not there! As circumstances change, so do we. So how could we honestly expect Red Bubble to see that this person, when she made a remark to someone that held an obvious connection to the situation to her but not to someone else, how could we expect the administrators to see the long version of Now playing out in her life? It was the short version that got her into trouble, and that is what society rewards and punishes with people, the short fragmented stunted expressions of Self, the tiny particles of human expression and not the vast mythic Mural of each individual life-form. How could Red Bubble, being a part of this conditioned way of perceiving Now, possibly see it any differently? All instituitions, even the “free” ones are still institutions and they reflect not the sanity of Heaven but the schizophrenia of society.
