The Fairy Hatching….Your imagination is your only limitation in the Enchanted Forest / “The sensitive plant was the earliest, / Up-gathered into the bosom of rest; / A sweet fae child weary of its delight, / The feeblest and yet the favourtie, / Cradled within the embrace of light.” Image copyright © 2007 Shanina Conway. I had to climb a tree to get this mother sitting on two eggs.
Pen and Terracotta pencil on tea stained paper. I think this looks better in person, I hate that. Original for sale.
The monsters find him confusing and quite repulsive. You know, just like that “Twilight Zone” episode…only not on television…and with monsters and cross-hatching. (Okay, so they actually have very little in common.)
These two little babes are brand new; they hatched only one day ago. Mother Cardinal spends most of the time in the nest, keeping them warm, while Father Cardinal makes visits to the nest with grub worms and all sorts of goodies for the ravenous chicks. One of the three eggs didn’t hatch so that means more food for this healthy pair. Any sign of activity at the nest and these two pop up with bills wide open, anticipation quivering in every molecule of their tiny bodies. I’d like to dedicate this image to Kimberly Palmer who wanted a peek at these two after I mentioned they had hatched.

In April 1744 when Swedenborg was fifty six years old he experienced a vision of Jesus, which was to change the whole course of his life. In his journal he wrote:-”In the night a strong shuddering came over me from head to foot, with a thundering noise as if many winds beat together, and shook me….I found that something holy was upon me….From that day I gave up the study of all worldly science, and laboured in spiritual things….The Lord opened my eyes…so that in the middle of the day I could see into the other world, and in a state of perfect wakefulness converse with angels and spirits.”(Docs.I,p.35-36) This painting has been inspired by Swedenborg and the illuminations come from him, I am just a conduit for his work. / 21st January 2009

I’ve had my nose buried in the art of Da Vinci over the past couple of days, re-familiarizing myself with his mastery. / As much as I love his paintings, it’s his sketchwork that intrigues me the most…... his sketch workups for his paintings have such humanity in them, his invention sketches showing us a tiny glimpse of his genius, & those anatomy sketches giving us some insight into his constant need for knowledge…. Sadly I haven’t drawn anything for almost 5 years, but today the great Master has inspired me to pick up a pen after all this time, & I have to say it feels great! This image began life 12 years ago as a single line drawing hastily sketched as a thought came into my head. I’ve often looked at it with stirrings of interest….. / So today, with visions of Da Vinci & ancient manuscripts in my head I am drawing again . [ sharpie pen on cartridge paper, scanned, worked in PS with my own textures] Featured – Dimensions – July 2009 TOP TEN PLACEMENT – Drawings/Sketches Challenge August 2009 /
