  • Here’s my famous red vinyl chair and red phone! These have been used in quite a few photo shoots now – although, this is the first photo where the two items get in the limelight. This laneway is located near Hosier Lane in Melbourne, adorned with graffiti and stencil art. Getting the phone to the laneway from the carpark at Fed Square was easy. Getting the chair there wasn’t!

  • My buddy Spencer LaFrenz, at O’Reilly’s in North Beach. Fascinating fellow. Doesn’t he look like the professorial Indiana Jones?

  • Yes, they are my feet and I’m relaxing on the beach watching the kids play in the water. I gave this image some texture and it reminds me of a very lazy, Aussie summer’s day at the beach.

  • Yep it’s my hubby again, with the umbrella again. I sorta liked how this one turned out. It’s what I had pictured in my mind before I set out on this shoot. So was pretty happy with the results. I promise no more..well maybe just a couple.. :~)

  • Robert Johnson was truly the grandfather of blues. Inspiring such musicians as Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones. His music has deeply affected my love for blues and music in general. My portrait of Robert is a small tribute to the amazing body of work he produced. Through every layer of pencil and every stroke of my hand, I tried to capture the essence of Mr. Johnson onto paper. I depicted every detail in my portrait, from the old curtain hung behind him to the design on the blanket he sits on. Each pinstripe was painstakingly reproduced as well as the weathering on his guitar. My desired end result is that you will feel like you are looking at an aged photo of Robert Johnson. I believe when you truly study this piece you will hear his music and see the richness of his character portrayed in through my pencils. • I found this photo amongst all my parents old albums and found out the little boy is actually my dad! I played around with it in photoshop and added a few bits and pieces to revamp the old shot as a new artwork. - Updated 1/02/08

  • Friday August 3rd It happened again tonight. The old fool had left the door unlocked; and there, above the cages, some apparently empty and some housing pink-eyed rodents; stood the vessel containing the precious green liquid and marked with the words: “NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” once more, at my disposal. Thanks to yesterday’s acquisition of a rather splendid pocketwatch, I have been able to establish that administration of about 2floz of the serum is sufficient to remain effective for approximately two hours. I have thus resolved that, weather permitting, tomorrow’s edification will begin with the short trip into town whereupon I will partake in what will no doubt be another fruitful bout of “shopping”, after which with any luck, there will be ample time for a spot of inexpensive dining followed by a close inspection of the ample figures belonging to those delightful ladies up there at Pedlar’s Lane bathhouse, whom I understand, usually prefer to keep themselves hidden away from prying eyes. Dash it… Awfully sorry ladies!

  • Born into one of New Orleans’ oldest and most venerable families, Eugenia Planchette was no ordinary Southern belle. No matter how many governesses informed her that methodically dissecting crawdaddies and baby alligators was NOT ladylike behavior, little Eugenia would not be deterred. Despite her indelicate hobbies, Eugenia grew up to be an uncommonly fetching young lady, so if she was a trifle vain, who could blame her? She was certainly at no loss for suitors when she took up her studies at Tulane (medical school, of course), and her grades seemed impervious to her habit of dancing the nights away in the French Quarters’ most notorious nightclubs. Perhaps it was at one of these that she inadvertently insulted a voodoo priestess or just irked one of her more chemistry-minded classmates, but someone spiked her absinthe with something that caused an inexorable descent into madness. As far as the good doctors could tell, she became convinced that the best way to preserve her youthful appearance would be to remove her face and keep it in the icebox, only to be used when she really “needed” it, and apparently that is exactly what she did. Although the results would have made her a useful instructable for an anatomy class and certainly a pertinent case study in psychiatry, her surgical adventure, needless to say, ended her medical career. What Eugenia lacked in practicality she made up for in execution, however, and in truth the Face (as it came to be called) held up quite well. Eugenia and her removable face are pictured here in her parlor while her astonished cat, Poutine, looks on. This original artwork and story are copyright Ramona Szczerba 2008.
